BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Welding Engineer. In this position, you will be supporting the Combat Mission Systems (CMS) Business including approximately 25% travel to our Anniston, AL facility. This position will report onsite for 1st shift on a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off to support production in a team-based manufacturing environment.

In this role you will work directly with Manufacturing Engineering and resolve weld related issues and provide technical support on a variety of technical tasks. You will also perform activities in a variety of cross-functional areas as needed. Finally, you may interact with internal and external customers with respect to product planning, problem resolution, and process improvement.

As a Welding Engineer you will:

  • Help build armored combat vehicles, especially focusing on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV).

  • Apply basic knowledge of the design to create solutions for engineering problems.

  • Have working knowledge and implementation of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS). Assist in the development of new WPS's as needed.

  • Evaluate contractual weld requirements and provide recommendations to Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Evaluate and interpret design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and/or test results to ensure product built complies with the technical data package, applicable engineering standards and military specifications.

  • Develop and write technical documentation, create revisions to existing documentation, and provide input to technical papers or presentations / may deliver technical presentations.

  • Perform technical assessment, testing, calculations, and evaluation of results to address moderately complex engineering problems using specialized equipment and/or by computer programs.

  • Provide input to project leaders for the development of project plans, schedules, and budgets.

  • Apply basic lean/six sigma concepts to drive improvements to production processes.

  • Interact with various groups including Quality, Operations, Design, and Production.

  • Interact with multiple facilities across the country.

  • Evaluate current processes and develop process improvements.

  • Use knowledge of metallurgy and material weldability.

  • Recommends weld equipment and capital investment strategies.

  • Advise and develop special weld repair methods as necessary.

  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety objectives and policies.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline such as Weld Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 2 years relevant experience; or advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline

  • Knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures of Weld Engineering

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Manufacturing experience, especially around welding

  • Knowledge or experience with aluminum

  • Working knowledge of GD&T

  • Working knowledge of various welding / cutting processes GMAW, GMAW-P, GTAW, SMAW, PAC, OFC

  • Working knowledge of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) processes

  • Certification with AWS as a CWI or other relevant certification

  • Engineering experience with relevant applications in a defense environment

  • Specialized technical knowledge of relevant military and commercial design standards

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $68700 - $116800

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
