JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State is currently seeking a strong leader and top frontline fundraiser in the role of Senior Director of Campus Development to engage alumni and friends as partners in supporting Penn State’s Southeast Region of Commonwealth Campuses (Penn State York, Penn State Mont Alto, and Penn State Brandywine). As a member of the Division of Development and Alumni Relations, you can play an integral role in Penn State’s future and contribute to one of the most successful fundraising and alumni relations operations in the country.

Charged with guiding and overseeing all development and alumni relations for the Southeast Region campuses, this position reports directly to an Assistant Vice President for University Development, University Park, and dotted line reporting to the chancellor and regional chancellors for these campuses. In this role, the Senior Director of Campus Development will be directly responsible for the development and alumni relations activities for Penn State York and Penn State Mont Alto and provide oversight for the function at Penn State Brandywine.

With experience not only in fundraising but also in management, and with an entrepreneurial and ambitious vision for Penn State’s fundraising operation, the Senior Director of Campus Development Relations will:

  • Articulate Penn State’s and the campus’ needs, ambitions, and values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion, through excellent informal and formal communications, including written proposals;

  • Provide leadership and direction to all aspects of the development programs at the campuses

  • Identify and cultivate a pipeline of prospects for immediate and long-term cultivation;

  • Develop annual goals, plans, and budgets for a comprehensive, strategy-driven fundraising program;

  • Work collaboratively with campus leadership, campus advisory board, campaign committee volunteers, and central University Development staff to ensure fundraising success;

  • Work collaboratively with campus leadership, alumni society board members, volunteers, and University staff to ensure successful alumni engagement;

  • Build and foster relationships with increasingly diverse internal and external stakeholders;

  • Lead campus’ development efforts to successfully identify, cultivate and solicit alumni and friends;

  • Manage a development budget;

  • Develop and present formal proposals;

  • Interpret research information pertinent to relationship building with potential donors;

  • Work collaboratively with campus leadership, staff, volunteers, and donors to create and implement plans to secure major philanthropic gifts ($100,000+) and annual fund gifts below that level;

  • Supervise, train, and mentor a team of fundraisers, alumni relations professionals, and support staff, with a sustained focus on fostering inclusive relationships that yield meaningful results;

  • Travel throughout the region and across the country to pursue these strategies and build enduring relationships, tracked to a fixed and appropriately aggressive set of fundraising metrics;

  • Serve as an ambassador for the campus and its priorities and values;

  • Have the ability to travel to Penn State York (york.psu.edu), Penn State Mont Alto (montalto.psu.edu), and Penn State Brandywine (brandywine.psu.edu).

This position minimally requires a bachelor’s degree or higher and 6+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate will also have:

  • A track record of success in securing major gifts and meeting fundraising goals;

  • A dedication to and understanding of the skills required to build relationships with diverse communities;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education;

  • Experience in managing and leading goal-oriented teams and in planning development strategies;

  • Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, with a particular sensitivity to sophisticated, high-net worth audiences;

  • Proven ability to self-motivate, and ability to work independently, as well as part of a team;

  • The capacity to think and act strategically;

  • Impeccable writing, presentation skills, and ability to utilize various technologies;

  • A record of successfully engaging with foundations and community stakeholders is a plus;

  • A passion for higher education and an understanding of complex institutions;

  • A commitment to professional development, learning, and being mentored.

Operation of a motor vehicle as part of the position’s duties and a valid driver's license are required. Successful completion of a motor vehicle records check, in addition to standard background checks, is also required.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$86,300.00 - $129,500.00
