SUMMARY

New York Edge is seeking passionate and enthusiastic people to fill the role of Makers Club- Extended Day Activity Instructor. In this role, you will organize, lead, and promote interest in various activities such as fashion designing, jewelry making, sewing, music production and/or DJing. Instructors utilize and adapt the New York State Arts Learning Standards to create an engaging and awarding activity that encourages participation in New York Edge programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Lead activities in sewing, jewelry making, and recycled crafts, music production and/or DJing

• Demonstrate and teach pattern-making and garment construction.

• Build strong relationships with and among students

• Prepare materials for daily activities

• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests

• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students

• Participate in ongoing professional development activities

  REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of the fashion industry, music production, or DJing

• Is able to communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.

• Is responsible, reliable and punctual.

• Exhibits patience and positive attitudes in establishing good rapport with the students.

• Possesses good organizational skills and completes all responsibilities in a timely manner.

  EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• High School diploma or equivalent

• Enrolled in college, college credits and/or degree in related field of fashion or music production highly preferred

  OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Must be 18 years of age or older

• Experience in working with youth in educational and/or after school setting.

  WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• May be required to walk up and down stairs

• May be required to lift heavy objects/materials as needed

• Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School, but may be required to interact with the community at large during trips or events.

  The Makers Club Instructor will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents and school administration.

  At time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
