Summary You will serve as an IT SPECIALIST (SYS ADMIN/INFO SEC) in the DIR ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT of NAMEDRSCHU DAYTON W PATT AFB. THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2020 Public Law 116-92 amended Section 9905 of title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to streamline and simplify certain DoD civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain positions in the competitive service in the DoD. Responsibilities You will manage a server room in a 100BaseT LAN environment connected by a Cisco switch. You will manage the command Defense Research and Engineering Network (OREN) infrastructure, workstations, account access, peripheral equipment and connectivity. You will serve as a systems administrator with responsibility for planning, maintaining and coordinating the installation, testing, modifying, upgrading, maintaining, and troubleshooting of hardware and software systems. You will directly support the NAMRU Dayton ADP Systems Manager serving as an alternate in every capacity, function and task. You will perform services as an IT systems administrator, assisting in the planning, coordination and implementation of research-based applications software and hardware for operating systems. You will review IT programs to assess overall compliance with plans, policies, and alignment with business requirements. You will resolve a myriad of problems within the scope of the help desk. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying network architecture design principles and topology concepts to ensure performance, security, and scalability Experience establishing protocols and configuring/optimizing network hubs Experience troubleshooting, testing and integrating network services consistent with network infrastructures Experience applying high level authority policies and requirements related to telecommunications services and networking technologies Experience applying total infrastructure protection environment Experience verifying system security certification, accreditation requirements and federal information systems protocols Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management web site: Information Technology (IT) Management Series 2210 (Alternative A). Education This position allows for substitution of specialized experience for education to include: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience Education: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
