POSITION TITLE : Registered Nurse

SUPERVISOR : ACT Team Lead

POSITION SUMMARY : Provide guidance, supervision and education to clients and staff regarding mental and medical health issues, medication side effects, medication administration and general health services.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required :

  1. Current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Minnesota.

  2. Qualified as Mental Health Practitioner in state of Minnesota.

  3. Certification in CPR and First Aid.

  4. Strong verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Essential Functions :

  1. Performs all duties in accordance with the policies and procedures of Southwestern Mental Health Center, Inc. and licensing agencies.

  2. Assists Southwestern Mental Health Center management in the development of policies, procedures, forms and training programs which assure:

  3. the effectiveness and safety of medication administration within the Center, including guidelines regarding when to inform the nurse of problems with medication administration, including client refusal of medication and adverse reactions;

  4. in support of Physician and/or Nurse Practitioner, assures clients are assessed for medication side effects/drug interactions;

  5. in collaboration with Physician and/or Nurse Practitioner, monitors health of clients;

  6. assists in coordination with medical services, including emergency medical services;

  7. assists in assuming an effective response by program staff to medical emergencies;

  8. provides ongoing consultation and advice to Center staff;

  9. Provides Outpatient Psychiatric Physician Support Services including vitals, orders, etc.

  10. Assists with establishment and maintenance of e-prescribing capabilities for organization.

  11. Attends Case Consultation staff meetings and in-services.

Other Responsibilities :

  1. Conducts in-service training relating to medical health or medications.

  2. Provides Medication Education Services (MES).

  3. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.

  2. The employee frequently is required to travel to all SWMHC facilities in the catchment area, ambulate within and between departments; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.

  3. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.

  4. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

  5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

REQUIRED COMMUNICATION/MATHEMATICAL/REASONING SKILLS:

  1. Must possess the required level of skills and abilities to read, write, speak, and apply mathematical concepts and sound reasoning to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job.

  2. Must be able to perform basic operations on a computer within the Windows operating system.

  3. This position requires problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, and the ability to multi-task.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  1. May be exposed to communicable diseases when working in a health care environment.

  2. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions.

  3. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
