Manulife Forest Carbon Sales Manager in Work At Home, California
The Opportunity
Responsible for leading the marketing and sale of forest carbon credits generated by carbon projects on MIMT client properties as part of our Forest Climate Strategy and opportunistic carbon-focused client investments. Engages with intermediaries, verifiers and registries to ensure all information is current and accurate to support carbon credit sales. Participates with other team members to enhance MIMT’s reputation and positioning as a trusted source of high-quality, high-integrity carbon credits in the market. Supports broader MIMT investment efforts with carbon credit market information.
Scope:
Ongoing carbon credit sales, with annual targets to sell all available volumes from client projects via spot, forward and pre-sales agreements, where applicable, at competitive prices aligned with client return objectives.
All commercial forest investment regions worldwide with a predominant focus on North America.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with carbon credit buyers, internal groups, third party service providers, advisors, and clients.
Periodic domestic and international travel to conferences and other events may be necessary.
Service the continuous information and communication needs of a diverse group of teams located in multiple regions where MIMT operates across North and South America, Australia and New Zealand.
Potential to expand purview to other credit types including mitigation banking and biodiversity credits over time.
Responsibilities
Forest carbon offset sales lead.
Preparation of carbon project marketing collateral including dedicated websites, marketing presentations, supplemental information packs in conjunction with MIMT colleagues including carbon project managers and global resource planning, resource support, accounting and operations team members.
Expansion of MIMT’s existing network of corporate and institutional buyers and intermediaries (brokers, trading desks, consultants, exchanges) via direct outreach and social media to facilitate credit sales and ongoing market knowledge sourcing.
Attendance at relevant carbon, sustainability, ESG and impact investing conferences to promote MIMT client carbon projects and credits available for sale.
Management of sales lead tracking via Salesforce and associated internal reporting.
Preparation of request for proposal (RFP) or request for offer (RFO) responses utilizing MIMT’s knowledge database and specific carbon project information.
Negotiation of carbon transaction terms with counterparties for spot sales, pre-sales and forward sales including preparation of transaction agreement documentation.
Coordination of legal and compliance reviews for external-facing collateral and transaction materials.
Support regional MIM business development teams in corporate lead generation and cultivation for investment opportunities.
Support the MIMT accounting and portfolio management teams in providing information and analysis.
Support the MIMT economic research team in providing information for periodic carbon price forecast updates.
Support MIMT thought leadership and fundraising with carbon market insights.
Support carbon market regulatory and standards framework tracking and application to MIMT carbon practices.
What are we looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Forestry, Finance or equivalent experience.
A graduate degree in a marketing, communications, public relations or carbon related discipline is highly desirable.
A minimum of five years of experience in sales within any of the following: alternative asset classes, real assets, forestry, agriculture, impact investing, sustainable investing, ESG investing, carbon markets, or conservation finance.
Direct carbon credit sales or trading experience is highly desirable.
Understanding of the investment relevance of sustainability, climate science and policy, natural climate solutions, carbon sequestration, co-benefits and carbon and timber market dynamics.
Knowledge of registry protocols, documentation, credit issuance and sale or transfer mechanics for voluntary (ACR, CAR, Gold Standard, Verra) and compliance markets (CARB, Washington Cap-and-Invest, Australia ETS and New Zealand ETS).
Proficient in compliance and voluntary carbon project design documentation, baseline and project scenario design, social media and desktop office applications.
Must be highly outgoing, motivated and entrepreneurial.
Must have strong organizational and analytical skills.
Must have proficient writing and presentation skills to prepare professional marketing collateral.
Must be team player.
Must have strong verbal communication skills.
General knowledge of forestry is desirable, but not required.

Salary range is expected to be between
$90,225.00 USD - $162,405.00 USD
