CVS Health Ambulatory Care Pharmacist Manager in Woonsocket, Rhode Island

Position Summary

Retail pharmacy has identified trends and challenges that are shaping the market and are anticipated to have significant impact on Retail Pharmacy's core business. Margins have continued to be impacted by PBM pressure on reimbursement, fewer generic launches, and limited pricing growth. Retail pharmacy has to evolve to generate new sources of value for the business, and CVS is well positioned to do so by creating new and expanded services that advance the role our pharmacists play in the healthcare ecosystem. The Ambulatory Care Pharmacist Manager role will play a key role in this evolution. The Manager will be responsible for leading a team of ambulatory care pharmacists in value-based care settings with the goal of improving the patient experience, increasing medication adherence, driving Medicare Stars ratings, and reducing medical cost spend. This role combines both execution and implementation, as it is responsible for implementing operations that enable clinical pharmacists to deliver patient care in partnership with primary care providers as well as leading, developing, and coaching a team of clinical pharmacists. This role is responsible for the performance of identified primary care sites to optimize the value clinical pharmacists provide and support the development and expansion of the collaborative practice agreement under which the pharmacists deliver care, and improve satisfaction measures of patients, pharmacists, and providers.

The Manager will be responsible for managing approximately 10 clinical pharmacists. This leader will also be required to interface with clinical care teams and various stakeholders across Retail Pharmacy and the broader CVS Enterprise (including Pharmacy Operations, Talent Acquisition, Human Resources, CVS Healthspire™, Legal, and Clinical experts) so the ability to build strong partnerships, and effectively influence others are key components to success. The Ambulatory Care Pharmacist Manager – Integrated Pharmacy Model will report directly to the Director of Pharmacy Health Services – Integrated Pharmacy Model and will work closely with leaders from other functions across the enterprise and externally.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Manage and lead a team of pharmacists to drive key performance metrics in an integrated pharmacy model at select primary care sites (estimated 50% of time)

  • Hire and onboard clinical pharmacists to fill open roles at selected sites

  • Ensure up-to-date pharmacist licensure and certifications

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines

  • Develop clinical standards and operational best practices

  • Continually raise the bar on team performance through focused development strategies

  • Audit pharmacist visit notes to confirm clinical standards are being met

  • Set individual goals for each location and monitor KPIs to track performance

  • Meet or exceed the set goals and targets

  • Identify and coach team members that require extra support to accomplish goals or overcome clinic barriers

  • Create an inclusive and collaborative team culture

  • Establish trusted relationships with clinic staff and help remove barriers and accelerate results by influencing the care team as needed

Support product development and implementation of new clinical programs (estimated 50% of time)

  • Support strategy of new opportunities for expanded health services

  • Develop thoughtful preparation and change management plans

  • Create and update clinical guidelines for new and/or existing collaborative practice agreements

  • Develop internal and external measurements and KPIs

  • Set aggressive but achievable targets

  • Create internal and/or identify external trainings/certification courses for pharmacist preparedness

  • Develop surveys and perform interviews to receive continuous feedback from patients, clinicians, and pharmacists

  • Engage and influence pharmacy and clinic leadership teams

  • Receive required approvals from legal, medical affairs, clinical, and patient safety teams

This position can be located anywhere in the U.S. with the ability to work remotely or in a CVS Corporate Hub. This role will require travel to different locations throughout the country. The amount of travel will vary depending on our client’s need but could be up to 20% of the time.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership experience

  • 8+ years’ experience of developing, implementing and executing programs

  • 8+ years of demonstrated successful leadership experience in a highly competitive environment. Relevant sectors include retail, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals

  • 8+ years’ proven track record of influencing others with and without authority

  • 8+ years’ experience actively taking on issues in a decisive manner, while keeping broader team dynamics in mind and empowering your leaders to obtain results through building behaviors.

  • 8+ years’ experience leading under pressure, adapting to changing dynamics in real time, and finding solutions that satisfy multiple ‘customers’ of the business.

  • 8+ years’ experience understanding and breaking down highly complex situations to deliver impactful solutions in real time.

  • 8+ years’ experience effectively demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills, very strong interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • 8+ years’ experience collaborating effectively across different business functions, different perspectives, and different styles of leadership.

  • 8+ years’ experience demonstrated ability to lead a large team and manage a million-dollar business unit to achieve

  • 5+ years’ experience building high-performing, successful teams developing key talent. Demonstrated passion for bringing new leaders along and helping them realize their ability to impact the business.

  • Proven ability to deliver results

  • Excellent prioritization and planning skills and be able to translate strategy to action

  • Strong ability to work reciprocally and to skillfully persuade others to support important initiatives and gain alignment with our strategy and goals

  • Ability to work in confidence, ensuring the confidentiality of patient and medical and financial records are in compliance with company and HIPAA Privacy guidelines

  • Any additional tasks as required by manager or supervisor.

  • Active pharmacist license in any US state

  • Regular and reliable attendance

  • Travel- Ability, and willingness, to travel regularly, 20% of time, based on needs of the business.

  • 1+ years of experience in product development or similar field building and implementing healthcare solutions

  • 1+ years of experience working with external clients

  • 10+ years of pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership experience

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$135,575.00 - $228,800.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
