Lead Estimator

We are seeking an experienced Lead Estimator to join our team at TEC, a leading provider of erosion control solutions within the construction industry. As part of our Team of Lead Estimators, you will help ensure and perfect accurate and timely preparation of cost estimates for erosion control projects. This role involves working with a team of estimators, collaborating with Sales, Operations, Customers, and Administrator to maximize outcomes, driving and improving the development of competitive, cost-effective/profit-optimizing estimates for a wide range of complex projects varying in scale, scope, and geography. The Lead Estimator will report directly to the Senior Director of Pricing, playing a key role in ensuring that the company’s projects are delivered on budget and in compliance customer and TEC standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Estimating Department:

  • Work with a team of estimators and Sr Director of Pricing, ensuring that estimates are prepared accurately, efficiently, and on time

  • Help develop and implement estimating strategies, processes, and workflows to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the team

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and training to junior estimators, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment

  • Establish and Review Project Estimates:

  • Lead the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for a wide array of TEC projects, including, but not limited to erosion control, heavy civil, site work, developer services, and all related and tangential work

  • Ensure that estimates incorporate all project requirements, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services, while maintaining cost-effectiveness and competitiveness.

  • Review and approve final estimates before submission to ensure they meet the project scope, client expectations, and budgetary guidelines.

  • Collaborate with Internal and External Teams:

  • Work closely with project managers, operations teams, engineers, and clients to gather relevant project information and define scope, requirements, and site conditions

  • Coordinate with the TEC Purchasing and Operations teams, vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain accurate pricing for materials and services required for the projects

  • Work with Finance and the Sr Dir of Pricing to ensure that our margins are correct and revenue is managed correctly

  • Bid Preparation and Proposal Review:

  • Oversee the development of comprehensive bid proposals, ensuring all project costs are captured accurately, and that proposals align with client specifications and regulatory requirement

  • Ensure bids are submitted on time, reflecting competitive pricing, quality standards, and the company’s strategic goals

  • Present and communicate bid proposals to clients, Sales Reps, and stakeholders as required, ensuring clarity on cost breakdowns, project scope, and value proposition

  • Cost Management and Risk Analysis:

  • Monitor and evaluate ongoing and completed project costs against initial estimates to identify discrepancies, track changes in scope and implement corrective actions where necessary

  • Assess and manage project risks related to estimating, such as market price fluctuations, project delays, and unforeseen site conditions

  • Continuously review cost data, evaluate historical estimates, and refine processes to improve the accuracy and competitiveness of future bids

  • Financial and Budget Oversight:

  • Collaborate with senior management to ensure that cost and pricing directives are implemented and followed

  • Work closely with all TEC stakeholders applicable to ensure that project estimates align with financial projections and overall company profitability goals

  • Help provide detailed reporting and analysis of estimating performance, highlighting areas for improvement or growth opportunities

  • Industry Knowledge and Compliance:

  • Stay up to date with industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes in the erosion control and construction sectors to ensure estimates reflect the latest best practices and compliance standards

  • Ensure that all estimates meet or exceed customer standards and requirements

  • Help proactively identify and integrate emerging technologies and innovative methods into the estimating process to maintain a competitive edge

  • Continuous Improvement and Development:

  • Work with senior management to implement best practices for estimating, ensuring continuous improvements in accuracy, speed, and cost competitiveness

  • Provide regular feedback and support to team members to improve estimating accuracy, team collaboration, and individual professional development

  • Foster a culture of learning within the department by encouraging ongoing training and certification opportunities for the estimating team

    Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in, Business Administration, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred, but not required. Certifications in estimating (e.g., AACE, ASPE) are a plus.

  • Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in Sitework, Heavy Civil, Civil Engineering, Land Development, Erosion Control, or other directly related estimating for construction projects

  • Proven track record of delivering accurate, competitive bids for related projects above

  • Strong knowledge of erosion control methods and estimating process for the project types above

  • Skills:

  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Construct Connect, ProEst, Timberline, Bluebeam, AGTEK or other similar software), Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), and basic knowledge or AI and it’s uses for estimating and takeoffs

  • Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills

  • Expertise in cost estimation, budgeting, and financial analysis

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
