This position is 48 hours per two weeks on the Day shift, for 8 hour shifts, every third weekend and three holidays per year. The Lactation Consultant assesses and meets specific needs of inpatient breastfeeding women, and works with the maternity care team and clinical staff as a resource. This is a RN position that is scheduled for both lactation consultant shifts and post-partum bedside care shifts. This position supports our lactation program for patients in the birthplace. Weekend rotation is currently every other weekend; however the position will be transitioning to a every 3rd weekend position.

Responsibilities Job Description

This position also:

  • Maintains knowledge of all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.

  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.

  • Provides one on one consultation, develops and implements education for families in the hospital

  • Provides follow up for patients who have discussed lactation concerns with staff nurses and need additional consultation with a lactation consultant.

  • Acts as a visible lactation resource to promote lactation services and breastfeeding education

Qualifications

Required:

  • 2 to 3 years experience working with breastfeeding mothers

  • IBCLC Certification

  • AD

  • RN License

  • BLS

  • NRP certification after hire

Preferred:

  • BSN

  • 2 to 3 years knowledge of planning and implement of breastfeeding education for patients and staff
