BDO USA, LLP Managing Director, Turnaround and Restructuring Services in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey

Job Summary:

The Turnaround and Restructuring Services (TRS) Managing Director is responsible for executing and leading a team of TRS in business restructuring and bankruptcy related engagements, including bankruptcy litigation, and addressing complex questions and issues under the direction of the TRS Segment Leader. This position may work a sporadic and fluctuating schedule.

Job Duties:

Bankruptcy & Restructuring Services:

  • Leads performance of company-side restructuring and turnaround work and/or interim management engagements, and assists in BDO internal client bankruptcy-related work
  • Contacts BDO's OGC, creditors, lawyers, bankers and internal BDO contacts to follow up on new business opportunities (creditor committee, debtor, litigation, etc.)
  • Conducts and clears conflict checks, prepares draft retention affidavits or engagement letters, and reviews fee applications or invoices; ensures compliance with all other court filing requirements

Engagement Project Leadership:

  • Takes lead role in preparing and executing BDO engagement strategy as project leader in consultation with engagement partner
  • Takes lead role in presenting BDO work product to counsel or client and responds to questions
  • Takes lead role in interactions with counsel or senior company management on complex operational, restructuring or bankruptcy issues
  • Utilizes superior financial restructuring and bankruptcy technical skills, including strong ability to identify bankruptcy or financial restructuring related issues and makes recommendations to address issues
  • Analyzes cash flow projections, identifies issues, and develops a plan of action to address issues
  • Reviews reorganization/liquidation plan, evaluates plan for client, identifies key issues and makes recommendations to address issues
  • Evaluates and recommends alternative courses of action and potential solutions to achieve best result for client
  • Testifies at deposition or in Court on work performed by BDO and defend work in cross examination

Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the workload of TRS Senior Managers, Managers, Senior Associates and Associates on assigned engagements; reviews work product
  • Provides on-the-job training for all TRS Senior Managers, Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates on each engagement

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree, required; focus in Accounting or Finance, preferred
  • MBA, preferred

Experience:

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience performing business restructuring and/or related consulting services, required
  • Five (5) or more years of management experience, required
  • Experience working within a national public accounting firm or consulting organization, preferred

License/Certifications:

  • CIRA and/or CTP designation, preferred
  • CPA, CFE, preferred

Software:

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, preferred

Language:

  • N/A

  • Ability to encourage team environment on engagements and contribute to the professional development of assigned personnel
  • Executive presence and ability to act as primary contact on assigned engagements, while keeping Principals informed of progress in a timely manner
  • Ability to develop financial models, especially integrated P&L with balance sheets and cash flows
  • Advanced knowledge of debt and lease restructuring, cash flow and balance sheets, along with liquidation analysis
  • Advanced knowledge of bankruptcy and insolvency process
