CITY OF WOLF POINT Mechanic - Maintenance Worker III in WOLF POINT, Montana
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Maintenance Supervisor or Director of Public Works
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, construction, and repair of streets, public facilities, sanitation, utilities, and parks; operates medium and heavy construction and maintenance equipment, and heavy-duty trucks. Work varies, individual judgment within prescribed standards and procedures required; may schedule own work within established guidelines.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Must be capable of performing journey mechanical duties and operating medium and heavy equipment; ability to follow oral and written instructions; must possess a CDL with Class B endorsement.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lifting up to l00 lbs (greater with assistance); Physical demands involve bending, stooping, crawling, climbing, and getting in and out of vehicles. Work may be performed in undesirable conditions of dampness, pollution, heat, and cold.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE: Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation, repair, and maintenance of buildings, equipment, streets, parks, facilities, water and sewer lines, and refuse collection; may patch streets, assists with Hot Plant, snow removal, and maintenance of park and recreation facilities; May operate and maintain medium and heavy equipment including tandem trucks, motor grader, distributors, street sweepers, front end loaders, rollers, snow plows, sanders, boom trucks, and backhoes; uses a variety of hand and power tools; checks tires, oil, lubricant, water, lights, and fuel to equipment operated.
Performs journey mechanical duties to maintain, repair, and overhaul a variety of heavy and light equipment; may overhaul engines, transmissions, and related equipment; performs preventive maintenance duties on vehicles, mechanical equipment, and engines; may use valve grinders, welder, wheel balance, and automotive testing and diagnostic equipment and hand tools; may be required to be called out to assist during emergencies; may perform manual labor and performs related work.
Prepares minimal records of own activities and maintenance records of all equipment of the city; work may be performed in undesirable physical conditions of pollution, heat, cold, and dampness; duties involve physical work requiring lifting up to 100 lbs. (greater with assistance), bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing; contacts with others is incidental to performance of duties, requiring common courtesy and relaying information; work performed often requires care and use of proper safety equipment and procedures to prevent injury.
SUPERVISION - RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS: May serve as a Lead worker as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by training in mechanical, welding, and similar trades, plus three years of mechanical work and operating of medium and heavy equipment. Possession of CDL with a Class B endorsement.
