The Challenge
We are looking for a Senior Assistant Division Design Construct (DDC) Engineer II to join our Project Development team.
In this role you will:
- Produce and review roadway design plans, estimates, and create contract documents.
- Draft, design, and review erosion control, hydraulic, signing, and pavement marking plans from inception through final construction plans in accordance with NCDOT policies, standards and specifications.
- Coordinate field surveys and oversee survey crews.
- Schedule assigned projects and coordinate schedules with other units, government agencies, private engineering firms, and public/private officials to ensure completion of plans according to the State Transportation Improvement Project (STIP) or Division Let schedules.
- Assist with managing supervisory and administrative functions to support the drafting of roadway plans.
What You Bring
- Sound knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, practices, and theories used in project development and construction engineering of bridges and roadways.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and review moderately-complex engineering and technical plans/data for completeness, compatibility, compliance with engineering principles, standards, codes and design needs.
- Experience making recommendations and decisions for simple or complex projects.
- Experience interpreting and communicating, verbally and in writing, details of plans, project documents, policies, and procedures to convey information to consultants, staff, and others.
- Experience supervising, motivating, counseling, and training engineers and technicians.
- Ability to respond to the public, local government agencies, Raleigh-based staff and private engineering firms regarding the status and design aspects of highway projects within the Division.
- Working knowledge of transportation design in accordance with AASHTO guidelines and NCDOT policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of field surveying procedures and proficiency with robotic instruments, data collection and GPS.
- Computer skills using Microsoft Office, MicroStation, GeoPak and a familiarity with corridor modeling.
- Ability to budget time and coordinate schedules with others.
- Agility to transverse steep and uneven terrain.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Note
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
