Diesel Mechanic Apprentice

PeopleReady of Winsted, MN is now hiring Diesel Mechanic Apprentice! Seeking a candidate who is currently taking diesel mechanic classes or is going to start soon. The candidate will watch and follow his/her mentor, retrieve tools, parts and learn about safety and the day to day processes. Customer is wiling to work around diesel mechanic school schedule. Facility is open from 6am 9pm M-F. So, if school is in the am, the worker can work in the evening or vise versa. This would be a great opportunity to make sure it the right field for the worker and to prove themselves to WM. The candidate will learn what it takes to keep equipment running in a safe manner, must have a good mind set and willing to learn. This is a Temp-to Hire position. WM provides 10K worth of tools and when hired on, after 2 years, the tool will then belong to the candidate.

Pay Rate:

The pay rate for this job is $20 / hour

What you'll be doing as a Diesel Mechanic Apprentice:

• Perform repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services. Performs inspections, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulics, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.

• Utilize vehicle computer electronic systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.

• Complete required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.

• Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.

• Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment.

• erforms service calls for emergency breakdowns. Class B CDL preferred or ability to obtain in the future.

• Maintain a clean, safe work environment in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.

Shift Timings: 1st Shift (Day) , 2nd Shift (Evening)

Job requirements:

• Valid drivers license

• Ability to read, write, comprehend and communicate in English

• Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.

• Work environment may be indoors in a shop, or outdoors to repair trucks on the road. Usually well-lighted and ventilated.

• Sometimes necessary to work in awkward or tight positions and to handle greasy or dirty tools. These factors require following basic safety precautions

• Background check and drug screening required
