Job Summary

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory statutes, permit obligations, and company requirements. This position supports facility leadership and operations in strengthening EHS performance and compliance through continuous improvement, in order to keep our associates safe and protect our environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains compliance to all applicable Federal, State, Local EHS regulations, and Company policies, initiatives, and objectives.

  • Oversees facility environmental permitting requirements (air, stormwater, waste, hazardous waste), including inspections, monitoring, reporting and recordkeeping.

  • Interacts with all Focus Factories to assist with and find solutions to EHS issues.

  • Assists Focus Factories and Shared Services with the development and review of Job Hazard / Job Safety Analyses.

  • Drives the training of site personnel on various EHS/regulatory policies, programs, including but not limited to emergency preparedness and response, forklift operation, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, incident reporting and investigation, environmental awareness, ergonomics.

  • Participates in investigations and root cause analysis on accidents, incidents or unsafe events and suggests remedial and preventative actions.

  • Participates and prepares on-site inspections, assessments, or audits by internal or external parties.

  • Consults with all Focus Factories/Shared Services on design and operation of existing, new or modified equipment or processes and provides review and approval regarding EHS impacts.

  • Audits/Inspects and documents in Velocity the facility to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards or environmental concerns, recommending corrective & preventative measures.

  • Maintains records of ALL audits, inspections, training, EHS compliance activities and action plans.

  • Manages the Development and Continuous Improvement of ABL Recycling programs

  • Manages Facility Emergency Preparedness activities including Annual testing events and practice exercises.

  • Coordinates Chemical Approvals and maintenance of “Right-to-Know” program (SDS’s)

  • Enforce Safety guidelines through effective monitoring, auditing, and disciplinary action on a case-by-case basis.

  • Supports and participates in required corporate EHS initiatives, internal assessments, incident reviews and training.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and in accordance with Acuity Brands Lighting Values (listed below). The requirements listed here are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:

  • Requires a degree in related field (Safety, Engineering, Environmental or Science or equivalent) or equivalent job-related experience.

  • Three to Seven years of related experience in a Manufacturing/Industrial environment

  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory compliance with federal, state & local EHS requirements including OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, NEC, EPA

  • Must possess strong problem-solving skills and experience in troubleshooting process EHS issues.

  • Experience with lean manufacturing is preferred.

  • High degree of comfort with computer usage and software (Microsoft products)

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business journals, procedures, and government regulations

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from department personnel

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
