Job Description

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate communication studies courses - including the basic speech communication course. The teaching assignment involves four classes each semester, including multiple sections of the basic speech communication course depending on scheduling and staffing needs.

  • Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs.

  • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field.

  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.

  • Contribute to student growth and development including student advising.

  • Provide service to the university and community including the program, the department, the college, the university, and the greater community.

  • Support Winona State University's mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural, and economic vitality of the people and communities we serve.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Communication Studies by appointment start date.

  • Recent evidence of quality undergraduate teaching.

  • Demonstrated familiarity and preparation to teach two or more of the following courses:Intercultural Communication, Social Media, Small Group, Nonverbal Communication, Disability Culture and Communication.

  • Commitment to teaching excellence in the basic speech communication course.

  • An active scholarly agenda.

Preferred Qualification

  • Skills/ability to integrate technology to enhance learning and teaching.

  • Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching.

  • Experience teaching within and across different communication research methods

  • Preparation to incorporate digital communication into an undergraduate curriculum

  • Demonstrated commitment to pedagogical innovation and excellence.
