Job Title: SUE Technician

Job Description

We are seeking 2 entry-level SUE Technicians with experience in Subsurface Utility Engineering or surveying. The selected individuals will undergo training under our management.

Responsibilities

  • Locate, review, and research job locations to identify landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes affecting the survey.

  • Supervise the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and coordinate and organize work efforts.

  • Ensure that work performed meets standards and derive necessary field calculations.

  • Maintain survey instruments and equipment.

  • Ensure collected data such as angles and distances are accurate and conform to regulations.

  • Coordinate survey findings with engineering personnel, clients, and other project stakeholders.

  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, and other records to gather necessary data.

  • Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.

  • Keep accurate notes, records, and sketches to document work performed.

  • Complete daily logs and expense reports.

  • Ensure all crew members follow safety procedures and complete safety forms.

  • Consult with computer operators and review the final production of work performed.

  • Use and maintain survey tools and field equipment for measuring, sighting, and leveling.

  • Operate survey equipment such as Total Station/Data Collector, Level, and various GPS methods.

Essential Skills

  • High School diploma or GED

  • At least 2 years of survey experience

  • Willingness to travel

  • Proficiency with survey equipment (total stations and GPS)

  • Experience working outside in various conditions

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record

  • Ability to pass a drug test

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in subsurface utility engineering (utility designating & locating) preferred

  • Willingness to work on a vacuum excavation truck for utility locating

  • Good technical skills

  • Behavioral traits: process-oriented, steady, helpful, honest, trustworthy, adaptable, analytical, problem solver, methodical, consistent, detail-oriented, precise, structured

Work Environment

The position is based out of our Raleigh, NC office. The majority of the work will be conducted in the field, with potential travel within the region (NC, SC, VA). If travel exceeds daily commuting distance, compensation and overnight stays may be required. Primary workload is within a daily commute, with an expectation of up to 60% fieldwork

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
