Counselor (2025-2026 School Year) Williston Middle School, Central Campus
Summary
: A counselors role is to guide students with social and career development. A counselor implementsguidance according to learning theories and the educational philosophy of the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organizes the counseling program by assessing needs, setting goals, and formulating a plan of action andprogram evaluation
- Initiates and coordinates school-wide guidance and counseling activities
- Uses appropriate counseling processes and techniques for individual and group sessions to meetdevelopmental, preventive, and remedial needs of students
- Uses appropriate assessment and diagnostic procedures for determining and structuring individual andgroup counseling services
- Assists parents and teachers in understanding and responding to developmental levels of students
- Interprets achievement and aptitude test data to assist school staff with curriculum planning: asrequested by the building principal
- Makes appropriate referrals of students to school and community programs
- Assists with coordination of student services in the school
- Interprets testing results and other student data accurately, as requested by the principal
- Follows the laws, policies, and procedures which govern school programs
- Takes part in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills
- Observe safety and security procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Education and Experience:
A valid ND teaching license and ND counseling credential or ability to obtain.
