As a Lifeguard 1 for the City of Wichita, you\'ll be at the heart of the action, helping to ensure our neighborhood pools are safe, fun, and welcoming for everyone. This entry-level seasonal role is a fantastic opportunity to build lifesaving skills, gain valuable work experience, and contribute to your communityall while having fun in the sun!
In this role, you\'ll monitor pool areas to prevent hazards, respond quickly to emergencies, and enforce safety rules. Youll also have a chance to assist with swim lessons, participate in ongoing lifeguard training, and learn about basic pool maintenance. It\'s the perfect job to build your confidence, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and create positive summer experiences for both you and the patrons you serve.

Examples of Work Performed
- Monitor assigned recreational pool area to detect hazards, disturbances, or safety infractions, by practicing preventative lifeguarding.
- Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies
- Enforce all City of Wichita Parks pools policies and procedures
- Assist with Swim Lessons
- Participate in regular in-service training
- Assist in cleaning the facility and related areas and maintenance and operation of pool equipment
- These examples are not intended to be all-inclusive. Other job-related duties may be assigned as needed.
- At no time should any other job duties interfere with the primary responsibilities of a lifeguard: The safety of the patrons.
\ Requirements of Work
- Ability to listen to, read, interpret, and apply instructions received
- Ability to lift empty containers weighing up to 50lbs up to a 4 ft height
- Ability to lift and move large, sometimes bulky objects weighing up to 80lbs with assistance
- Ability to climb steps or ladders
- Ability to move about quickly and stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop or squat, as needed to perform assigned tasks
- Ability to work outdoors in unpleasant weather conditions
- Ability to tolerate airborne nuisances associated with open grounds and windy conditions
- Ability to climb onto and sit on a lifeguard tower for extended periods of time
- Ability to physically perform life guarding activities, including techniques of swimmer rescue
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public.
- An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
\ \ Required Experience and Training
- Must be at least 15 years old or older.
- Applicants must satisfactorily demonstrate required skills including swimming, CPR-PR and first aid.
- Must receive Red Cross Lifeguard training by June 25th, or within 90 days of employment, whichever comes first.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
Preferred Experience and Training
- Preferred to have a current American Red Cross CPR-PR, First Aid, and LGT certifications.
Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check.
