Job Description Summary:

The Clinical and Translational Science Units (CTSUs) funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH), support clinical research operation at the University of Kansas- Wichita. The Clinical Research Nurse Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the clinical research unit and supervises the clinical research staff at the CTSU. This position reports to the Clinical Director of the CTSU and works closely with research leadership to support clinical research growth.

Job Description:

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the clinical research staff and administrative, working closely with the CTSU Clinical Director on the unit oversight.
  • With the assistance of the CTSU Clinical Director and CTSU Medical Director, oversee the hiring, onboard and training of new clinical research staff.
  • Oversee the clinic schedule and resource and staffing allocation needs.
  • Assist the Clinical Director with SOP development and streamlining processes.
  • Assist investigators with study startup and implementation of research protocol in the CTSU.
  • Oversee processes that ensure all studies are well-controlled, protocol routines are not violated, medication/study products is properly dispensed and ensure that the safety and welfare of human participants are protected and that the legal, privacy and confidentiality measures are implemented.
  • Perform research activity and direct patient care within the CTSU as needed per protocol.
  • Order and maintain research equipment, supplies and materials according to departmental policy.
  • Provide accurate documentation in participant records (paper and electronic, as applicable).
  • Utilize evidence-based practice methods to improve participant care and study conduct.
  • Ensure data integrity by ensuring high quality research source documentation on flowsheets or within an electronic medical record and/or any other research related documents.
  • Develop flowsheets for study teams utilizing CTSU services as per protocol.
  • Participate in start-up meetings with study teams when necessary.

Required Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas
  • Current BLS certification

Work Experience:

  • At least 1 year experience in acute care nursing
  • Knowledgeable in clinical research operations

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Current ACLS and PALS certification

Work Experience:

  • Experience in outpatient or inpatient clinical procedures, including administering IV infusions.
  • Management experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook email, Word and Excel).

Skills:

  • Highly skil ed in placing IVs, acquiring ECG\'s, vital signs, height and weight, processing lab specimens, administering investigational drugs via IV infusions, IV push, IM and SQ injections.
  • Highly skilled in the collection of medical history, concomitant medications, and concomitant therapies from the research participants.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Function independently, and proficiently, with minimal supervision
