New Plant, New Opportunities

We are honored to be constructing our newest shingle manufacturing facility in Newton KS and will hire our initial plant leadership team in 2024. Due to our investment in training and the development of employees, you will have the opportunity to travel to our other locations, engage with peers, hire the remainder of the plant staff and participate in the design and construction of the facility. Summary

GAF is searching for a Buyer to support the construction, commissioning and operations of a greenfield asphalt shingle manufacturing plant in Newton KS. During plant construction and commissioning, the Buyer will coordinate equipment purchases and contractor agreements.

After commissioning, the Buyer will coordinate purchases of equipment and materials working in conjunction with corporate Supply Chain resources and other plant departments.

Essential Duties

  • Work with Corporate/Plant Operations, Engineering, Purchasing, Accounting and Plant management to support and in accordance with the Purchasing strategy for plant operations.

  • Coordinate RFQs, RFIs and RFPs as required.

  • Ensure all requisitions are entered and created before vendor purchases.

  • Qualify and maintain all contractors, ensuring appropriate documentation is in place as required per policy. This includes properly structuring purchase orders to improve the invoicing process and limit changes.

  • Identify and participate in cost savings initiatives using competitive bidding,strategic purchasing, negotiations, and drive service improvements. Use data of past spend to identify opportunities to negotiate volume pricing. Work with vendors to set-up and manage vendor catalogs.

  • Assist with month-end close by researching delivery discrepancies and/or receiving issues, past due invoices, invoice issues and vendor credits are received as appropriate.

  • May prepare and execute, in conjunction with the Legal Department and Corporate Purchasing, supply agreements which fully protect the Company against missed deliveries, shortages and outages, poor material quality and other performance issues that could affect production.

  • Work in conjunction with Maintenance / Engineering to develop Statements of Work that will protect GAF and their interests.

  • Monitor delivery of materials and services to ensure the needs of the Plants are met, while certifying that all purchases meet volume requirements and commitments.

  • Work closely with Plant personnel to locate and develop new sources of supply and offer lower cost alternatives.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Under This Roof, We Require

  • Bachelor Degree in Business. Experience will be considered in lieu of a degree

  • 3+ years demonstrated experience with make/buy decisions

Under This Roof, We Also Value

  • Ability to communicate, both written, and orally, in English is required

  • Ability to meet extensive travel requirements in first 1-2 years for the opportunity to visit and train at existing GAF locations

  • Experience with contract negotiations

  • Understanding of purchasing processes in a manufacturing setting

  • Proven work history that demonstrates successful accomplishments of working collaboratively with others

  • Experience working in a Customer focused and multi-functional team environment

  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP, PeopleSoft, File Bridge, Maximo, etc.)

  • Ability to interpret the content and terms of vendor proposals

  • Working knowledge of Inventory Management Systems and processes , such as FIFO, LIFO, WIP, Physical counts, Cycle counts, and process controls

  • Experience in Google Suite and SAP is beneficial
