Summary

The Lead System Administrator works within the Application Services Group to administer the Authority’s Software Portfolio by conducting activities to support existing applications and software infrastructure as well as implement new applications and new software infrastructure, with a focus on Aveva PI System (formerly OSISoft).

The Lead System Administrator will use technical skills to implement, support, maintain, and improve the software infrastructure, and Project Management skills to realize these objectives in an environment where decisions are guided by policies, procedures, business plan, functional strategies, and business priorities with oversight from IT Management as well as from the IT Advisory committee.

The Lead System Administrator position focuses on supporting NYPA’s Asset Health Monitoring Application suite that includes Aveva PI, GE Smart Signal, GP Strategies Eta Pro, GE Asset Performance Monitoring etc.

To support existing applications the Lead System Administrator effectively manages the resolution of production issues, adheres to all IT change management and incident reporting requirements, and verifies that applications are functioning properly after any change. Additional support activities include installing upgrades and patches and, when required, analyze, design, code, and implement changes to enhance functionality or to accommodate business process changes. When an application, underlying software infrastructure, or hardware has reached the end of its lifecycle the Senior System Administrator is tasked with identifying and implementing replacement solutions to meet business objectives.

As technology and the utility business changes so must the solutions implemented to ensure NYPA business needs. The impact of this role ensures the business runs more efficiently, enables the improvement of business processes, and provides more information for better management decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and contribute to all technology aspects of application development/ programming and support including reports, interfaces, database design, patching, upgrades, and enhancements.

  • Contributing to the overall architecture of an existing enterprise application system and implementation of new applications, ERP solutions, and platform APIs.

  • Collaborate with architects, developers, business analysts, and QA analysts to design, develop, and test applications.

  • Assists in the development of information systems blueprints, design patterns, templates for best-in-class software development and to ensure high levels of software re use and the migration towards service-oriented architecture (SOA).

  • Support cloud solution resources, both IaaS and PaaS.

  • Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities. Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed proof of concept or solution.

  • Communicate and coordinate with other team leads, business leadership, and Manager to ensure appropriate integration of processes and modules across the enterprise.

  • Develop and maintain technology roadmaps and assist in product road map development

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • In depth knowledge in application architecture, design, development, and support including large scale enterprise systems implementations.

  • Able to design complex software systems that are scalable, maintainable, and extensible.

  • Software engineering proficiency.

  • Experience in leading the implementation and support of Realtime systems. Enterprise Applications/systems.

  • Able to lead medium to large teams.

  • Able to identify and solve complex problems in the software development process. and able to Influence others on the solution.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Cyber security policies, also public and private clouds.

  • Experience in a project management, resource estimation, schedule management.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum 7 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

Overnight travel to the various NYPA locations within New York State.

The estimated salary range for this position is: $108,060.00 -$148,000.00 The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
