Summary

The Billing Representative will ensure timely and accurate production and distribution of customer invoices in accordance with NYPA contracts, policies, and procedures.

The Billing Representative must be able to communicate effectively to address billing inquiries from internal and external customers, review accounts payable invoices related to purchased power, wheeling, and related services.

The Billing Representative is also responsible for the integrity and maintenance of the SAP CCS billing system and data reporting to Business Warehouse (BW).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and accurate billing and invoicing of customers and vendors.

  • Prepare and/or process invoices for payment to customer and vendors.

  • Review invoices for accuracy of payment or distribute final invoices to customers.

  • Complete analysis of data received and processed and billed for assigned customers.

  • Digitally archive invoices and necessary backup information for audits and inquiries.

  • Generate Business Intelligence reports to review billing and payables to ensure accurate recording in SAP or SAP BI.

  • Prepare statistical reports for internal and external customers/vendors upon request.

  • Provide the Manager with a record of issues identified during the billing cycle or payment run.

  • Provide support for error resolution of incorrect data.

  • Participate in special studies, ad hoc projects, and testing as assigned by management.

  • Communicate with internal and external customers/vendors, utilities, and billing/payable staff regarding issues and resolutions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Mathematical and analytical skills are required.

  • Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to represent NYPA to all internal and external customers.

  • Ability to work in strict deadline environment.

  • Ability to learn functionality of new computer systems, including the SAP system.

  • Ability to learn and understand at a moderate level utility billing concepts and customer contracts.

  • Ability to analyze data and invoices for accuracy, seek guidance and assist when needed.

  • General understanding of billing and accounts payable concepts is preferred.

  • Ability to identify potential incorrect charges and resolve with guidance and supervision.

  • Ability to manage large volumes of data entry is preferred.

  • Ability to assist others in meeting deadlines, while still maintaining own workload.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • High school diploma.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in payables, billing, accounting, or related finance field such as audit or analytics preferred.

  • Experience working in a computerized environment is preferred.

  • Experience working with ERP systems is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Limited travel (about 10%) required primarily to our generating facilities.

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $46,720.00 - $64,240.00. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
