UPMC Research Associate WPIC in White Oak, Pennsylvania

We are seeking an energetic, friendly individual to interview participants 65 years and older and complete blood draws for the MYHAT and 15104 Seniors Project research studies. Participant interviews take place in our offices located in White Oak and Braddock and/or at the participant homes in the Mon Valley region. This position is non-clinical and grant funded through the University of Pittsburgh.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain blood samples and strictly adhere to Universal Precaution standards

  • Conduct 2-3 interviews per week according to research guidelines, which include accuracy and competency in:

  • obtaining informed consent

  • collecting data

  • performing physical/neurological examination under supervision of the Research Coordinator

  • conducting neuropsychological testing

  • following research protocol for cash participant payments

  • Schedule appointments according to protocol.

  • Keep retention of participants a priority.

  • Maintain and respect participant confidentiality at all times.

  • Ensure study compliance and best research practices in accordance with the protocol and University/Federal guidelines and laws.

  • Handle clinical issues that arise from the assessments in a sensitive, professional manner, and report details to appropriate personnel.

  • Complete accurate coding, scoring, and Clinical Dementia Rating for each subject preferably on the same day as visit or at least within 1-2 days of the visit.

  • Conduct follow-up phone calls according to research guidelines.

  • Participate in consensus conferences with other Research Associates.

  • Maintain accurate records/logs of work completed.

  • Communicate effectively with Research Coordinator, Administrative Assistant, and Oakland staff

  • Demonstrate ability to work as a team member.

  • Demonstrate motivation, judgment and initiative appropriately.

  • Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

  • Participate in community events.

  • Recruitment of new participants for the study.

  • Bachelors degree required preferably in Psychology or related field.

  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.

  • Comfortable completing blood draws both in and out of the office as well as transporting and processing specimens.

  • Comfortable working with senior citizens.

  • Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred.

  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34 with renewal
