Job Description

Position Purpose

The Associate Vice President of Culture and Institutional Climate provides college-wide leadership for the college’s culture and institutional climate, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts in support of the college’s mission, values, and strategic framework. This position ensures the furtherance of strategic goals and compliance with the college’s Affirmative Action Plan, Minnesota State policies, and local, state, and federal regulations.

This position serves as the Chief Diversity Officer, 1B.1 and 1B.3 Designated Officer, Lead Bias Incident Response Officer, Affirmative Action Officer for the College and Deputy Title IX Coordinator.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for college culture and institutional climate to ensure alignment with the identified strategies.

  • Work collaboratively to oversee the conflict resolution process including intensive intake, leading facilitative conversation dialogue and overseeing the mediation process to seek timely and appropriate resolution of concerns prior to initiating a formal investigation.

  • Serve as chair and lead of the cross-constituent faculty, staff, and student Equity Committee.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and students to build cultural competency skills and improve campus climate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • At least five (5) years of demonstrated relevant experience as a senior-level college, university, or non-profit leader with proven advancement of culture and climate as critical components.

  • Knowledge and ability to disseminate related laws and regulations aligned to this role.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and address issues by leading with informal alternative dispute resolution, mediation and/or small group dialogue.

  • Ability to create trust, teamwork, cooperation, and cohesion among employee groups and the ability to establish and maintain productive, collegial, and professional working relationships within the internal and external college communities.

  • Demonstrated ability to be an effective team member with an impartial mindset paired with confidentially, the willingness to actively participate in cultural and climate building activities; and the ability to promote information sharing diverse thoughts and opinions.

Preferred Qualification

  • Master’s degree or higher.

  • More than 5 years of direct experience in aligned positions with demonstrated skill and ability to lead within the scope of this position.

  • Experience serving in a coaching and mentoring role to ensure success of the department.

  • Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office 365 applications.

  • Certified Title IX Coordinator or ability to become a certified coordinator within six (6) months of hire.
