SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Sustainment Engineer at Fluid Management is responsible for the management and oversight of engineering documentation for released products. Review active product and component drawings and assess opportunities for standardization, improvement, and optimization. It is their responsibility to own and manage the process of improving and changing any active product design. Responsible for change tracking, deviation assessment and tracking and maintaining documentation related to all efforts therein.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process for all released products to ensure alignment, information dissemination, approvals, implementation, and sustained improvement.

  • Serve as the Operations subject matter expert for product design related activity (drawing/blueprint updates, bill of materials (BOM), tolerancing, drawing standards, templates, etc.).

  • Support cross functional teams in resolving part or product quality or manufacturing issues through engineered solutions.

  • Translate production improvement user needs into clear, concise design requirements and design concepts for both current product engineering & new product engineering.

  • Maintain, update and own manufacturing documentation related to released products (drawings, procedures, deviation tracking, product improvement/change logs, etc.).

  • Provide technical and manufacturing support to ensure that new and existing products are optimally designed for quality, reliability, manufacturing, and cost.

  • Review, recommend, and implement updates to current product designs based on manufacturing, supplier, or customer needs.

  • Lead root cause investigations for the resolution of product quality problems and implements correction plans to prevent quality issues from re-occurring.

  • Support and contribute to the manufacturing engineering component of continuous improvement activities including Rapid Improvement Events (RIE) and Just Do It events (JDI). This includes identification of operations and support cost reduction opportunities.

  • This role will be the conduit between Manufacturing, Product Engineering, and Commercial team members. The successful candidate should be prepared to spend time in the plant on a regular basis.

  • Design, implement and review procedures involved with manufacturing processes, which also include automation techniques to maximize efficiency of production lines and the factory layout to optimize how products are manufactured.

  • Resolve issues and delays in production, while also finding ways to maximize quality through both process & people.

  • Identify new technologies that enhance both safety & quality.

REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, or other related discipline.

  • 5+ years of related experience in a lean manufacturing environment.

  • Track record of partaking and/or leading and implementing manufacturing guidance of the launch of New Products projects to the shop floor.

  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T).

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).

  • Track record of usage/maintenance of Bills of Material and/or Parts Books for production components.

  • Experience working with ERP systems to track product routing and material management.

  • Strong technical writing in support of design inputs, design outputs, qualification activities, and regulatory requirements.

  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills with cross functional team.

  • Analytical skills with excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Experience in engineering laboratories performing tests, evaluations of prototype devices and systems.

PREFERRED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Strong candidate would have experience with World Class Manufacturing, ISO Manufacturing Certification, Toyota Production Systems, Kaizen, DFMEA, NVAA/SVAA/VA time study creation & analysis, Standard work creation & optimization, Yamazumi Workload balancing or similar sets of fact based, data driven manufacturing improvement-based methodologies.

  • SolidWorks Certification.

  • Experience in a High Mix, Low Volume Environment.

  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator.
