The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year.

The District\'s mission is, \"to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of its citizens.

Job Summary\ This position will assist with the ongoing white-tailed deer management program within the forest preserves of DuPage County.

\ Essential Duties and Responsibilities:\ Provide assistance in the ongoing white-tailed deer management project within DuPage County, contributing to effective population control measures.\ Perform field dressing procedures on lethally removed deer, ensuring safe and responsible handling of harvested animals.\ Engage in data collection activities related to wildlife and ecosystem health, gathering information for research and conservation purposes.\ Operate pick-up trucks and/or ATVs as part of fieldwork, facilitating transportation to project sites.\ Conduct routine maintenance on vehicles to ensure their reliability and safe operation during field activities.\ Contribute to wildlife ecology and restoration ecology efforts, actively participating in initiatives aimed at conserving and restoring natural ecosystems.\ Foster a working environment that promotes safe work habits; Become familiar with and observe all applicable safety rules, policies, and work procedures; Follow all safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the District\'s safety and risk management program; Keep work area clean, orderly, and free of hazards; Immediately report all unsafe conditions and incidents.\ Maintain a supportive working environment and demonstrate a desire to exceed the expectations of internal and external customers.\ Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:\ Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.\ Valid Driver\'s License in good standing.\ Previous experience with wildlife and natural resource management is preferred.\ Demonstrate the ability to work independently while executing tasks with attention to detail.\ Possess strong field skills, showcasing competence and expertise in practical fieldwork.\ Proficiency in handling knives used in field dressing and knowledge of safe operating practices.\ Excel as a team member by participating and contributing to group efforts.\ Exhibit a keen ability to follow intricate instructions with precision and accuracy.\ Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.\ Demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships.\ Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and data.

Requirements:\ 18 years of age or older at time of hire.\ Valid Driver\'s License in good standing.\ Must have and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification or obtain upon hire (training provided).\ Must have and maintain Illinois Mandated Reporter certification or obtain upon hire (training provided).\ Previous experience in event coordination or planning.\ Ability to deal effectively with the public.\ Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Schedule:Starting date is October 24th, 2024.The schedule follows Monday-Thursday 6:00 pm - 4:00 am and some weekend hours as needed. Hours may vary and weather may affect scheduled shifts.

Pay:\$18 per hour.

Work Environment:This position requires working at various pre erves during nighttime hours primarily outdoors in all weather conditions during late fall and winter.
