Position Overview:

As the Occupational Health & Hygiene Specialist, youre a key member of the North and Central America (NCA) Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Team, reporting to the Director, EH&S for NCA. You will contribute to the success of Ball by providing technical support for the Occupational Health & Safety function (industrial hygiene, health, ergonomics, employee exposure risk assessments, etc.).

Your Key Areas of Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead and manage the Employee Occupational Exposure Assessment program for the region (NCA); assist in the resolution of industrial hygiene related issues.

  • Conduct occupational exposure surveys to evaluate employee exposure to: physical, chemical and biological hazards including, but not limited to: heat stress, chemical air monitoring, mold and/or other biological sampling in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (and other applicable country IH requirements) .

  • Conduct noise surveys at plant locations to: complete area noise maps; provide recommendations on reducing noise exposures; and confirm that the required hearing protection is adequate to reduce employee noise exposures to below established regulatory thresholds.

  • Prepare IH reports and make recommendations to plant, regional, and corporate management of employee exposures based on sampling analysis/results and observations.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of health and safety programs and evaluate plant compliance with regulatory and company programs.

  • Serve as an auditor in EHS Assessments and facilitate required compliance training related to IH programs. Identify operations, work practices, or materials which may present an unacceptable health risk.

  • Complete ergonomic evaluations; maintain filing system for IH reports in accordance with established filings systems and Ball Corporation Record retention schedule.

  • Review and approve chemicals purchased for the use in the business through the new chemical review process; communicate required and/or recommended acceptable employee exposure levels for chemicals, substances, and physical agents based on that review.

  • Lead management of EHS data, development of EHS data analytics, ownership of EHS Systems (Enablon) and processes.

  • Attend professional development courses necessary to maintain Certified Industrial Hygiene status.

  • Maintain an awareness of pending legislation and regulations and communicate changes.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety, Health and Safety, Environmental, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or other related science or engineering related degrees.

  • Minimum of 7 years experience Occupational Health & Safety for large multi-national corporation or large manufacturing operation.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in Industrial Hygiene.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, and experience coordinating compliance efforts and responding to regulatory agencies.

  • Demonstrated Skills:

  • Manufacturing operations to determine applicable regulation and potential business impacts

  • Ability to apply intensive and diversified evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard plant occupational health & safety operations techniques, procedures, and criteria.

  • Data Management: EHS data analytics development, and ability to learn and adapt various software tools for use in EHS.

  • Proficient in the review of body mechanics/ergonomics and principles affecting our employees and operations.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Masters degree in Industrial Hygiene, Data Analytics or similar related disciplines.

  • Industrial Hygienist certification or pathway in progress highly preferred

  • Certified Safety Professional or other similar certifications highly preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Based in Colorado, this position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site for three (3) or more days per work week (with core collaboration days of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). Travel (20-30%) and local commute between Ball locations and other possible non-Ball locations will be required.

  • Hiring Salary Range: $83,200 - $124,660 (Salary to be determined by the applicants education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)

  • This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
