Job Description:

The Distributed Energy Resource Analyst will collaborate with a cross-functional team, and focus on distributed energy resource program evaluation and development to ensure demand response and distributed energy resource initiatives create value and alignment with the overall goals of Tri-State. The position will play a key role in analyzing, developing, and optimizing distributed energy resources to enhance grid reliability, resiliency and efficiency.

Distributed Energy Resource Analyst

Hiring Salary Range: $110,000-151,000

Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze historical and real-time load data, including data from distributed energy resources to identify trends and opportunities to enroll distributed resources into the resource portfolio.

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance databases for tracking distributed energy resources to benchmark participation, performance, and savings.

  • Utilize forecasting and prediction tools to monitor and track the capacity and availability of the distributed energy resource portfolio.

  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations on the performance of demand response and distributed energy resource programs for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Maintain an understanding of the interoperability of distributed energy resources between financial, reliability, and regulatory requirements.

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to understand resource planning, organized market requirements, and regulatory environments. Operationally collaborate with information technology, engineering, and operations teams to integrate resources into the portfolio.

  • Maintain and advance data analytics skills to assist in modeling and decision-making.

  • Assist in the evaluation, design, and implementation of new distributed energy resource programs.

  • Continuously evaluate and optimize existing programs, improving overall efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Assist in analyzing resources in real-time, adjusting events and strategies to maximize the benefits of distributed energy resources.

  • Work closely with the member service and marketing teams to develop communication strategies that encourage participation in demand response programs and the adoption of distributed energy resources.

  • Provide technical support to members on distributed energy resources and demand response programs, including troubleshooting issues and answering queries.

  • Analyze end member feedback, participation rates, and usage to refine member engagement and program strategies.

  • Ensure all demand response and distributed energy resource activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Participate in industry forums and conferences to stay up-to-date on best practices, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to demand response and distributed energy resources.

  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures and attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of regulations, laws, standards, and best practices applicable to functional area.

  • Because Tri-State has an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job.

Qualifications:

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Energy Management, Electrical Engineering, Economics, Data Science, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus. Equivalent related experience in at least one of these disciplines will also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, R, or similar.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Knowledge of demand response management systems (DRMS), distributed energy resource management systems (DERMS), and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) is a strong plus.

Other:

  • Willingness to travel as needed. (Must possess a valid driver’s license.)

  • Must be able to demonstrate that he/she can perform all the essential functions of the job.
