Job Overview

The Senior Analyst, Whole Loan Trading plays a critical role in the acquisition, valuation, and sale of whole mortgage loans. This position requires a strong understanding of mortgage markets, credit risk analysis, and trading strategies to maximize profitability while managing risk.

A Typical Day

• Prepare whole loan offerings:

• Review of loans to put into offering and producing a tape for offering (All products).

• When preparing new pools, identifying which loans are ready for inclusion in future auctions.

• For scratch and dent trades, reviewing the whole loan data management system is capturing accurate condition and exception reasons to make sure Pennymac is minimizing loss.

• Develop and enhance Whole Loan Data Management and reporting system

• Build out management reporting of all whole loan trades to track selection, aging, Investor kick frequency and reasons and accurate pipeline reporting of loan pipeline and trades

• Manage the whole loan data management system to track and select loans for whole loan trades

• Complete ongoing analysis of whole loan best execution

• Daily pricing analysis us vs the market (by channel)

• Competitive pricing in Bulk (regular analysis of competitors to track changing trends) Market share analysis by division

• Identify trade optimization and build out connection to front end pricing strategies

• Additional analysis on Pennymac vs competitor prepayments speeds to protect best execution

• Automation and report efficiency improvements

• Funding statement tie outs with initial bid and provide profit and loss details to Mortgage Finance and Secondary for Pennymac Mortage Investment Trust PLS trades

• Backup to Pricing Strategy Traders for investor requests and trade management operational process

• Review all early pay off and early payment claims with Mortgage Finance to rebut or work to minimize loss negotiating price adjustments vs repurchase

• Development of additional executive dashboards and reports provide full transparency to management on whole loan executions and pipeline position

• Ad Hoc analysis

• Demonstrate behaviors which are aligned with the organization’s desired culture and values

What You’ll Bring

● Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or related field; or equivalent work experience

● 3 + years work experience in whole loan mortgage trading or mortgage backed securities trading experience

● Strong Excel, SQL and analytical skills

● Critical thinking and strong math skills needed to analyze complex financial data, assess risk, and make informed decisions to optimize trading strategies

● Understanding of financial concepts such as Amortization, Present Value, Future Value, Net PV, Return, and Discount, used for mortgage pricing, cash flow analysis, and valuation

● A team player with strong attention to detail and able to work independently

● Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, mathematical skills and sound judgment

Compensation: Individual salary may vary based on multiple factors including specific role, geographic location / market data, and skills and experience as defined below:

  • Lower in range - Building skills and experience in the role

  • Mid-range - Experience and skills align with proficiency in the role

  • Higher in range - Experience and skills add value above typical requirements of the role

Some roles may be eligible for performance-based compensation and/or stock-based incentives awarded to employees based on company and individual performance.
