POSITION SUMMARY Vertiv is seeking a skilled and motivated Component Engineer to join our team, responsible for selecting, qualifying, and integration with the product lifecycle. The Component Engineer will lead technical research and qualification of alternative components and suppliers. This role is crucial in assessing the impact of component obsolescence and working with suppliers to develop retrofit solutions. The engineer will consolidate parts and reduce inventory with component substitution. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of Printed Circuit Board, Power Semiconductor devices and Surface-Mount Device. RESPONSIBILITIES * Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate and approve alternative components for obsolete parts ensuring compatibility and performance. * Partner with Engineering and Supply Chain to select and approve alternative and new suppliers for substitute components as needed, ensuring they meet the company's technical and quality standards. * Assist in consolidating redundant parts and optimizing inventory management using tools such as the ABC matrix. * Submit component change requests ensuring updates to product documentation, specifications, and bills of materials. * Monitor process throughput to reduce lead times, mitigate risks, and improve efficiency in component qualification and implementation. * Establish traceability for the substituted components and monitor performance. * Engage with suppliers to evaluate the feasibility and reliability of proposed alternative components. * Process component substitution requests and manage obsolescence replacements. Ensure technical and functional requirements are met. * Support with determining minimum inventory level and last time buy purchase. * Develop and implement strategies with suppliers for retrofitting components to mitigate Last-Time-Buy scenarios. * Work with the manufacture of the Buy-Out products and develop critical spare component list. * Set up the Buy-Out critical spare list in Oracle PD Cloud * Keep abreast of new product developments, revisions, and upgrades that could affect product operation and component compatibility. * Support additional projects in related field as assigned by management. QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree in engineering is required. Master's degree is preferred. * A minimum of 3 years of experience in component engineering, change management, and/or a related role. * Proficiency in using change management tools such as SAP, PLM systems, or other relevant platforms. * Experience with electrical and mechanical components, including IGBTs, capacitors, compressors, motors, fans, and blowers. * Proficiency in interpreting electrical component specifications, technical drawings, and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). * Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data analysis skills, with a keen attention to detail. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. * Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. * Proficient in Microsoft Office and web-based technologies; experience with component tracking or product lifecycle management software is advantageous. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS * Certification in Change Management (e.g., APMG Change Management or similar) is a plus. * Experience in the electronics, power systems, thermal/HVAC, or related industries. * Knowledge of risk management and failure analysis techniques, such as FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis). * Green Belt or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
