Amazon Robotics empowers a smarter, faster, more consistent customer experience through automation. Amazon Robotics automates fulfillment center operations using various methods of robotic technology including autonomous mobile robots, sophisticated control software, language perception, power management, computer vision, depth sensing, machine learning, object recognition, and semantic understanding of commands. Amazon Robotics has a dedicated focus on research and development to continuously explore new opportunities to extend its product lines into new areas.

This role is a 6-month co-op to join AR full time (40 hours/week) from January thru July 2025. Amazon Robotics Co-op opportunities will be based out of the Greater Boston Area in our two state-of-the-art facilities in (BOS27) Westborough, MA and (BOS12) North Reading, MA. Both campuses provide a unique opportunity to have direct access to robotics testing labs and manufacturing facilities.

We are seeking a talented and motivated Product Development Engineer Co-Op to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience implementing best-in-class processes within a complex design and manufacturing environment.

Your key responsibilities will include applying Design for Excellence (DFx) principles during the new product introduction (NPI) process for a wide range of products, from initial concept through beta testing. You will also be tasked with integrating customer requirements for safety, manufacturability, deployability, and supportability into new product designs. Additionally, you will collaborate cross-functionally to develop and improve DFx feedback and services, guide product lifecycle changes, lead bill of material (BOM) strategy, and drive technology feasibility and improvement projects. Using advanced problem-solving techniques, you will identify and address technical root causes. To excel in this role, you should have a strong foundation in both design and manufacturing principles, combined with the capability to make impactful business decisions. Practical experience through prior internships, co-ops, or relevant extracurricular projects is highly preferred.

This Co-op will be responsible for:

  • Creating mechanisms, processes, and/or documentation to improve product development process

  • Gather, analyze and document functional/technical requirements for new projects, enhancements to existing solutions and production issues reported by end users

  • Drive resolutions within supply chain network and address manufacturability, production or design issues

  • Propose design changes that will enhance product manufacturability and testability

  • Support the design and implementation of production manufacturing tools and fixtures

  • Participate in brainstorming sessions

  • Support the build of models and prototypes

  • Support physical prototype testing, compile feedback and track to completion.

  • Support staff writing and evaluating Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), specifications and plans

Basic Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field

  • Availability for a full-time (40 hours/week) 5-month co-op between January - June 2025

  • Graduation planned for December 2025 or later

  • Ability to travel up to 15% required (domestic and international)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ months of practical application of technical skills outside the classroom, such as in a laboratory, research group, extracurricular project team (SAE – Formula, Baja, Aero Design, etc. or ASME), volunteering role, personal design project, or prior internship/work experience

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (preferably SolidWorks) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools (preferably Agile PLM)

  • Hands-on experience with drawing creation, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), and engineering documentation

  • Experience in managing the full lifecycle of technical projects, including requirements gathering, design, prototyping, and testing

  • • Demonstrated ability to support physical prototype testing, compile user feedback, and track issues to resolution

  • Problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills

  • Coursework in Mechanics of Materials, Manufacturing Processes, and Design for Manufacturing

  • Experience working for Amazon, its subsidiaries, or other relevant engineering/manufacturing organizations

  • Availability for a full-time (40 hours/week) 6-month co-op between January - July 2025
