PUMPING STATION OPERATOR Statement of Duties: Position performs skilled manual work in operating and maintaining pumping station machinery and equipment. Does other skilled laborer work as required. Examples of Duties Essential Functions: The primary functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Inspects, cleans, lubricates pumping station machinery and equipment, such as diesel, electric, gasoline engines, pumps and other related equipment Assists in overhaul and repair of station machinery and equipment, including engines, pumps and related equipment Maintains clean and orderly condition of station machinery and equipment, including engine pumps and related equipment Operates light to heavy duty equipment in snow removal operations FLOOD CONTROL/SANITARY PUMPING STATIONS Operates, maintains and test flood control and sewer pumping station equipment Checks and records flow readings for sanitary stations Operates equipment to mow Town dike system WATER PUMPING STATIONS Operates pumps in accordance with load demands and predetermined water levels Takes samples and records readings of water flow, pressure recorders, chemical usage and related dates Makes indicated adjustments Logs hours of machine operations Typical Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: Work requires high school graduation or equivalent plus two years experience in the same or a related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience required to perform the essential functions of this position. Must have working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of engines, pump, and related equipment. Ability to diagnose and correct causes of malfunction of pumping station equipment. Special Requirements: Possession of a valid driver\'s license required, pesticide license preferred. Employees working in Treatment must pass the examination for an Operator in Training within 365 days of appointment. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skill: Ability to understand and follow stated operating and maintenance procedures. Ability to work knowledgeably, efficiently, and safely with all types of hand and power tools, and motorized equipment around water and sewer operations and facilities. Ability to understand the principles of hydraulics, pumping, electricity, carpentry, pipe fitting, welding, basic machinery and fabrication. Ability to read, understand and follow written and/or verbal instructions. Requires the ability to maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers and supervisors
