U.S. Military Academy Instructor / Assistant Professor in West Point, New York

Summary About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities. Responsibilities Develop, design, direct and teach undergraduate introductory and intermediate language courses in French. Demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate education and expertise in instructional technology. Provide academic counseling and mentorship to the undergraduate students (cadets) at the United States Military Academy. Lead and guide student research through independent studies and/or capstone projects. Participate in department-level service. Engage in scholarly research. This is a full-time Term appointment in the excepted service with an NTE date of 31 May 2028 and not to exceed 3 Years. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Applicants will be evaluated on the following factors: 1) Academic Accomplishment (Ph.D. is preferred or advanced ABD considered) in French/Francophone Language, Literature, and/or Culture, or Second Language Acquisition - French. 2) Native or near-native fluency in French and English. 3) Promise or evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level. 4) Demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate education. Education Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. This position is not eligible for regular, and recurring telework. This position is eligible for situational telework only, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework". Situational telework is approved on a case-by-case basis, where the hours worked were not part of a previously approved, ongoing, and regular telework schedule. Situational telework is sometimes also referred to as episodic, intermittent, unscheduled, or ad-hoc telework.
