Job Summary:

Participate in design and analysis of opto-mechanical systems as part of a multi-functional technical team. Ability to design, generate trade studies and performance predictions, and perform tolerance analysis for optical systems. Write test procedures. Provide analysis to support optical system assembly and test. Prepare technical content for bids and proposals, design reviews, and status updates with customers.

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

  • Strong skills in all of the following areas are required:

  • Zemax and/or Code V optical design and analysis software.

  • Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Written and oral communication.

  • Ability to be an effective member of a technical team.

  • Skills in any of the following areas are desired:

  • Mathematical computation software such as Matlab or Mathcad

  • Image processing software such as ImageJ

  • Use of optical metrology devices such as interferometer, spectrometer, and wave front sensor.

  • Illumination design and analysis with Zemax and/or Code V software

  • Illumination design and analysis with LightTools software.

  • Radiometry of optical systems.

  • CAD software such as Solidworks or AutoCAD Inventor.

  • Properties of CMOS and/or CCD focal plane arrays

Requirements and Competencies:

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelors in Optical Program or Engineering

  • Masters Preferred

Work Requirements:

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand: use hands to fingers, handle or feel: and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear.

  • The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May involve prolonged periods of magnified inspection (eye strain)

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

  • The employee is frequently required to use the computer.

Work Environment:

  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.

  • Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions. (Lab Coats provided)

  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.

  • Safety Glasses are required

  • May require area specific safety training

  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne paper particles.

  • May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shifts from one station to another, during the production process.

RPO offers highly competitive, total compensation packages linked directly to employee’s professional experience. Additionally, we work a 4/10 work week that provides for every Friday as a non-work day.
