Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager to join the Wiremold Team in West Hartford, CT.
Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, the Engineering Manager is a player coach managing a team of engineers responsible both for the development of products and as a leader of independent projects for business growth. The Engineering Manager directs the team through the product development process by proving technical support, design experience product knowledge, customer experience and project management. In addition, the Engineering Manager ensures that products meet the requirements of listing agencies, associated codes and standards, and projects are completed within agreed time lines. Finally, a Engineering Manager will also manage their own development projects as assigned.
Main Job Duties:
Manage company technology research and development initiatives.
Lead investigations of emerging technologies, providing insight into better and more advance products, features and benefits for customers.
Manage VA/VE ideation and design projects.
Handles hiring, promotional and salary recommendations, disciplining employees, addresses complaints, resolving problems and performance concerns.
Establishes and maintains employee performance standards. Works with employees to set goals and define development needs. Provides ongoing, timely feedback and annual formal performance evaluations, per company guidelines and development system.
Ensures engineering support for operations, including clarification of equipment, assembly requirements and raw material requirements.
Provide necessary data for intellectual property reviews, designs and patents through direct involvement with development teams and patent legal counsel.
Lead intellectual property assessments, working between engineering teams and legal counsel to identify and secure invention opportunities while protecting existing IP.
Lead initiatives to create, update or maintain product research, development and engineering standards and drive the importance of on time delivery on products.
Contribute and lead continuous improvements to the WPDS to drive efficiencies in the product development process.
Provide support to marketing function, assist with product design requirements, review of competitive products, assistance with reviewing technical literature and help with determining our customer's product needs
Performs other similar and related duties as required.
Support and advise on environment impact of products and provide data that ensures products meet the Legrand Way for socially responsible products.
Qualifications
Education: B.S. in Engineering. Masters in Engineering a plus.
Experience: Minimum 10 years experience in engineering, project leadership and product development of electro/mechanical products. Minimum 5 years managing people or proven team leadership on successful engineering, research and development projects.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage others. Provide leadership, guidance, development and motivation to staff to achieve superior results and accomplish overall business objectives.
Excellent skills in project management, demonstrated ability to make timely and effective decision, handle multiple priorities and effectively delegate responsibilities to ensure high quality service is delivered on time and within budget.
Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to maintain focus extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information. Able to create effective reports, presentations and business correspondence.
Must be able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Must have solid business acumen and understanding of a variety of functional areas within the business.
Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, e-mail and meeting management software. Ability to use internet and web based resources efficiently and effectively.
