Job Description:

Job Title: Food Service Supervisor

Department: Food Service

FLSA: Exempt

General Function

Responsible for the effective and efficient operations of supervises the Market Grille, Italian, Dia Pida and Cocina Mexicana departments. Ensures that the entire food operation is profitable and the department managers understand the profit goals. Supervises the opening of new stores. Ensures food consistency and controls quality. Responsible for the formulation of new food items and sales ideas. Supervises and trains department personnel to ensure quality standards are met.

Centrally located residency is required within the area.

Reporting Relations

Accountable and Reports to: Vice President, Food Service

Positions that Report to you: Department Managers

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises overall operations of the Market Grille, Italian, Dia Pida and Cocina Mexicana departments, evaluating their operations at stores, advising the department managers on merchandising ideas, and suggesting new display techniques

  • Supervises the opening of new stores and trains department personnel to ensure quality standards are met.

  • Performs store visits.

  • Maintains food quality standards.

  • Responsible for the formulation of new food items and sales ideas.

  • Aids stores in recruitment of cooks and department managers.

  • Writes weekly promotional letters

  • Reports results of store visits to company officers

  • Develops plans for future operations.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interviews trainees.

  • Tests new items on a quarterly basis

  • Attends company and departmental meetings.

  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

Education and Experience

High School or equivalent experience. Additional training in food preparation and retail management beneficial. 5-8 years of similar or related work experience

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Instructing, assigning work, reviewing work, planning the work of others, maintaining standards, and allocating personnel.

  • Selects new employees and acts on employee problems.

  • Has the authority to recommend employee transfer, promotion, discipline, and salary increases.

Physical Requirements

  • Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.

  • Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 20 pounds, and occasionally standing or walking.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, standing, walking, pushing, puling, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

The duties for this position are normally conducted in a combination of office and store environments. There is exposure to dirt, noise, seasonal temperature extremes, dampness, equipment movement hazards, and dangerous chemicals/solvents. There is significant pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities in a day. There is frequent need to assist sales staff at new store openings. Extensive travel involved.

Equipment Used to Perform Job

Standard tools and equipment used in a food service environment; Computer and company vehicle

Financial Responsibility

Responsible for company vehicle and expense account. Makes recommendations to supervisor regarding the purchase of product and equipment. Takes completed budget allocations to supervisor for approval.

Contacts:

Has weekly contact with customers and the general public. Has monthly contact with supplies/vendors. Has frequent contact with regulatory agencies such as Health and Fire inspectors at new stores

Confidentiality:

Has access to confidential information including knowledge of employee issues, wages, sales reports, and profit and loss statements. Also has access to potential real estate sites, construction and design costs, store opening dates, and future store locations.
