Job Description

Performs a variety of standardized tests, including advanced and specialized tests appropriate to the discipline of the assigned laboratory section. Obtains specimens where necessary. Prepares the specimen and decides the suitability of the specimen for the requested test. Prepares reagents, performs tests, determines and calculates results. Reviews results for accuracy and maintains proper records. Discusses methods and general procedures, investigates alternative procedures where appropriate, and reviews results with the supervisor. May assume supervisory capabilities in the absence of the immediate supervisor. Evaluates new test methods and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of standardized and specialized tests in the assigned laboratory section.

  • Obtain specimens as necessary.

  • Prepare specimens and evaluate their suitability for testing.

  • Prepare reagents and perform tests.

  • Determine and calculate test results.

  • Review results for accuracy and maintain proper records.

  • Discuss methods and general procedures with the supervisor.

  • Investigate alternative procedures as needed.

  • Review results with the supervisor.

  • Assume supervisory capabilities in the absence of the immediate supervisor.

  • Evaluate new test methods and instrumentation.

Essential Skills

  • Current California CLS license.

  • Experience with multiple specialties including laboratory, blood bank, chemistry, hematology, and MLT.

  • At least one year of experience in an in-patient facility.

  • Trained or have completed clinicals in the United States.

  • CLS Generalist certification.

  • Ability to perform in multiple departments (Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • MTE license required if working in the Microbiology department.

  • Able to work every other weekend and holidays.

  • Good attendance and no tardiness events.

Work Environment

Fast-paced environment. The candidate will be working with a team of other CLS and lab assistants. The team consists of about 4-5 CLSs and approximately 5 lab assistants. There are two day shifts (6am-2:30pm) and one mid-shift (2:30pm-11pm). Able to work every other weekend.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00
