Summary:

  • The Biomedical Equipment Asset Manager is responsible for managing all preventive maintenance activities. These include preventive maintenances performed by in-house Biomedical Equipment Technicians (BMET), as well as those performed by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and third party vendors. The manager provides on-site leadership for all PM components of the medical equipment management program, participates in the development of departmental and entity continuous quality improvement initiatives. The manager helps maximize patient safety by supporting proper use, application, and operational performance of patient care equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and coordinate preventive maintenance activities for Biomedical Equipment.Assess the preventive maintenance requirements for all new equipment and review on a regular basis the preventive maintenance requirements for existing equipment.Starting with the Manufacturer’s recommendations develop the preventive maintenance /inspection protocol and frequency for each device category considering alternative equipment maintenance plans, while making sure to meet regulatory requirements of all agencies having jurisdiction. Take into consideration risk, service history, and environmental conditions in defining the protocols.Assure that staff appropriately handle equipment that store PHI.Assure that all staff use universal precautions when handling equipment.Manage the appropriate level of (electronic) virus protection for equipment being inspected. Assure upgrades/downloads are up to date.Manage equipment recalls.Develop work schedules for technicians and make adjustments as needed to accommodate changing workloads. Adjust equipment schedules as appropriate to balance the load and to align with accessibility of the equipment.Coordinate the acquisition and stocking of parts needed for PM procedures.Evaluate staff productivity, efficiency, and other specific work quality performance indicators as pertains to Preventive Maintenance activities.Audit work completed by staff and take corrective actions where necessary.Take necessary steps to ensure that regulatory requirements with respect to PM completion ratios are met on a monthly basis.Ensure all resources are available to staff members as needed to allow them to perform preventive maintenance of medical equipment and systems as assigned.Provide training to biomedical technicians as appropriate.Maintain communication with end users, providing lists of devices that are due for inspection in order to facilitate locating the devices as well as identifying availability.Follow-up with end users regarding devices overdue for inspection.Adjust inventory adding new devices with incoming inspections and delete devices that cannot be found over an appropriate period of time.May be required to perform safety testing and preventive maintenance on clinical equipment.Function as resource person to areas of responsibility. This may include providing instruction as to the safe and proper use of medical equipment or acting as a technical resource to assigned staff.Understand and comply with Joint Commission and other applicable standards and regulations.

Credentials:

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)

  • Education Specialization:Any field, Biomedical Equipment Technology preferredEquivalent Experience:•5+ years experience in preventive maintenance
