General Motors Controls Engineer in Wentzville ASSY, United States

Job Description

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Wentzville Assembly on a full-time basis.

The Role:

As a Controls Engineer you will analyze, troubleshoot, and diagnose electrical problems in the body shop at Wentzville Assembly. You will also be required to complete engineering projects related to electrical controls and programming. This role does require the ability to work autonomously with occasional guidance from supervision. This position will require you to have the ability to work off-shift and overtime.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Serve as a technical resource for plant electricians

  • Develop and plan Continuous Improvement Projects

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and diagnose electrical problems in manufacturing operation

  • Design and modify electrical control circuits and programs

  • Support plant continuous improvement activity

  • Support daily production activities, including investigating conveyor and equipment issues to provide technical input for problem resolution

  • Support GMS and BIQ4 initiatives

  • Utilize statistical methods for continuous improvement of plant controls systems

  • Enforce safe work practices as the highest priority and implement objectives for improved ergonomics, health/safety, and housekeeping

  • Maintain good working relationships with peers, hourly employees, union, management, supplier community, and interface with support functions outside the plant as required

  • Utilize best practices and common systems to improve competitiveness and reduce waste

Additional Job Description

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Controls Engineering experience

  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent experience

  • Ability to work off-shift and overtime

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • 2-5 years of experience working as a Controls Engineer

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering

  • Proficiency in industrial networking protocols – DH+, RIO, Device net. TCP/IP and EthernetIP

  • HMI software – Siemens WinCC and TIA Portal and Rockwell Factory Talk.  Panelbuilder for Panelview Applications

  • PLC hardware – Rockwell ControlLogix family.  PLC 5 / PLC 500 / Control Logix / Guard Logix

  • Servo drive systems – Kinetix 6000 Drives

  • VFD – Armor Starts and PF70 / PF755 Applications

  • Fanuc Robotics – programming and troubleshooting desirable, but not required.

  • ABB S3 & S4 Robotics – programming and troubleshooting desirable, but not required

  • Vision Systems – programming and troubleshooting desirable, but not required.
