Open Position

Position Title: Assistant Principal – Elementary (Position Number 2526-3317)

Location: State Road Elementary School

Starting Date: July 1, 2025

Position Summary: The Assistant Principal is a full-time (12 month) position requiring a thorough knowledge of the latest educational trends, theories, techniques, understanding of curriculum development, staff evaluation and program supervision.

Supervisor : The Assistant Principal is directly responsible to the Building Principal for assisting with the administration of the education program, personnel, management, parent student, and community relations.

Qualifications : An individual filling the position of Assistant Principal must hold New York State Certification as a School Administrator and Supervisor or its equivalent.

  • Experience implementing NYS Standards and curriculum alignment

  • Knowledge regarding child development to address social, emotional, physical, and academic growth

  • Experience with data driven instructional decision making

  • Practical experiences in promoting inclusion for all students

  • Ability to coach staff in addressing the diverse social, emotional, physical, and academic needs of all students

  • Intrinsically motivated to address the daily routines of a school community

    Essential Responsibilities

    Educational Program:

  • Assists in supervision, coordination and evaluation of instructional programs in all areas.

  • Supports teachers in the implementation of New York State and Webster curriculums.

  • Assists building principal in coaching teachers in planning, assessment and monitoring student achievement on an ongoing basis.

  • Serves as a coach and resource for matters relating to research based best practice strategies, methods, and materials.

  • Develops, manages and supervises the administration of student assessment.

  • Works collaboratively with building principal, et al. to analyze and interpret data and assessment results to guide staff development.

  • Assists in the development of a well-balanced school improvement plan.

  • Coaches students in the development of prosocial skills while implementing the District Code of Conduct.

  • Assists in the development of the master schedule.

    Personnel:

  • Assists in the design and implementation of orientation programs for new teachers, student teachers and substitutes.

  • Assists in the screening and selection of teaching staff.

  • Consults with the principal regarding recommendations for tenure

  • Observes and evaluates teacher performance

  • Assists in the preparation of a plan that meets individual teacher needs

  • Substitutes for teachers for urgent parent-teacher conferences, lack of a substitute or other unforeseen emergencies

  • Accepts such other duties as may be assigned by the principal

    Management:

  • Assumes the duties of the principal in their absence

  • Assists in the preparation and management of the instructional budget

  • Serves on the school shared deciding making team

  • Assists in supervising activities or building functions that occur outside of the school day

  • Accepts such other duties as may be assigned by the principal

    Parents, Students and Community Relations:

  • Assists in the development of programs for community groups when so requested

  • Maintains effective liaison with community parent groups in matters related to curriculum, instruction and district policy

  • Accepts such other duties as may be assigned by the principal

  • Participates on building Special Services Team, Pre-Referral Team and District Committee on Special Education as directed by the building principal

  • Accepts such other duties as may be assigned by the principal

    Salary: Per WELA contract and commensurate with education and experience.
