Town of Webster Assistant Building Inspector (Civil Serv in Webster, New York

The Town of Webster is posting for candidates who hold permanent competitive civil service status and who are eligible for transfer or reinstatement under Civil Service Rules. This is a 40-hour work week position, Monday - Friday.

Typical Duties: (other duties as may be assigned)

Inspects buildings for which permits have been issued to insure compliance with regulations; Inspects buildings under construction to insure conformity to plans and compliance with regulations; Recommends appropriate course of action to the Building Inspector on petitions and applications filed; Investigates complaints regarding building occupancy and use; Explains to building contractors, property owners, and the general public the requirements of the local building code, zoning ordinances, and the New York State Multiple Residency Law and other applicable laws; Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent customer service and dispute resolution skills, including tact, good judgement and the ability to communicate well both orally and in writing. Knowledge of building codes, zoning ordinances and applicable laws. Possession of a current NYS Code Enforcement Training Certificate. Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must hold permanent competitive civil service status and be eligible for transfer or reinstate under Civil Service Rules or be reachable on the civil service list for Assistant Building Inspector.

Special Requirements Background Checking: Applicants will be subject to a pre-employment background check, driver license check, physical and drug testing. Possession of a valid New York State Class D driver license required.
