Job Summary

Entry level role within Commercial Lines consisting of assisting underwriters in a supportive capacity to help evaluate and process property and casualty risks. Confirm required information and acceptability in authorized classifications for new business transactions. Demonstrate strong clerical and technical skills to ensure accuracy and efficiency in our operating procedures while utilizing multiple systems. Identify opportunities to improve productivity and overall processes within the department and assist in the development of these methods. Complete individual tasks in a timely and accurate manner while also contributing to a team environment by accomplishing additional job-related responsibilities. Focus positively on continual learning. Absorb information from teammates, work responsibilities, and the insurance industry.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET / Hybrid

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education: Associates Degree or Technical or specialized knowledge or equivalent, related experience.

Experience: 1 – 3 years of High School equivalent plus 3 – 5 years

Knowledge: Preferred minimum of 1 year experience in the insurance field with an understanding of property and casualty terminology and underwriting practices.

Decision Making: Makes decisions within position standards. Applies guidelines and procedures that require some interpretation in dealing with exceptions. Work requires judgment to select among a wide range of courses of action which are usually pre-defined.

Supervision Received: Works under general supervision. Typically receives general guidance except for the most complex and or high impact projects where additional instructions may be warranted.

Leadership: Works as an individual contributor. May participate in training less experienced staff.

Problem Solving /Operations/Direct Work Involvement: Applies knowledge to help solve moderately complex problems requiring independent thinking with direction.

Client Contacts: Contacts other departments and or external organizations or parties frequently. Contacts involve obtaining or providing information on matters which may be sensitive and or complex to interpret.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Pursuit of an AINS, AU, CIC or CPCU designation preferred.Familiarity with basic Commercial Lines insurance terminology, coverages, and guidelines through training, team & management interaction, course training, andother resources, as it relates to underwriting support functions is a plus.Ability to communicate with customers, exercise judgment and negotiate in routine business situations.
