State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Waymart is looking for a highly motivated, detailed-oriented Accounting Assistant with bookkeeping experience to join our dynamic team of professionals. DESCRIPTION OF WORK No day is the same at DOC! As an Accounting Assistant, you will be responsible for keeping inmates' accounts up to date and accurate. More specifically, you will handle accounts as inmates are released or transferred, answer requests and inquiries concerning inmate accounts, and resolve discrepancies. Administrative work is a necessary aspect of this position, and you will type memos, provide account summaries, return telephone inquires, and post entries into our internal system called Gravity. Other key responsibilities include posting accounting data to ledgers; books; registers; and journals, making routine adjustments to accounts, preparing daily summary and monthly accumulative reports, taking routine trial balances, and preparing routine financial reports.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785. (before taxes). This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65. You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits. Additional Requirements: Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
