The Senior Corporate Counsel - Litigation will work independently to actively manage the resolution of the Company's claims and litigation, including product liability, breach of warranty, commercial disputes, class actions, and regulatory inquiries. Senior Corporate Counsel - Litigation will oversee and manage all phases of litigation, including pre-litigation evaluation, investigation, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and appeals. The individual will manage outside counsel involved in the representation of the company and review and approve pleadings, motions, and settlements. The person will work directly with senior management of the Company and cross functional departments in providing legal support and training on various matters; and perform other legal tasks as assigned by the Legal Department leadership.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with reputable law firm and/or corporate legal department in litigation

  • Current Wisconsin bar association membership and in good standing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous consumer class action, large commercial and/or product liability litigation experience

  • Previous experience in a global manufacturing environment

  • Previous experience in a publicly traded company

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Effective negotiation, presentation, communication, and drafting skills;

  • Ability to independently work on highly complex legal matters;

  • High work capacity and passion for the job, in addition to high ethical and moral standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategically manages the resolution of assigned litigation or threatened claims, including products liability, commercial disputes, and breach of warranty lawsuits

  • Addresses general liability matters for the company, which includes developing case strategy, managing outside counsel, issuing legal holds, developing budgets and forecasts, reviewing and approving pleadings, attending depositions and court hearings when appropriate and coordinating discovery

  • Lead and assist in out-of-court resolution of actions including settlement negotiations, mediation, and arbitration

  • Develop and implement litigation strategies that align with the company's business objectives and risk management priorities

  • Provides strategic input and guidance on new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the Company

  • Counsels the Company regarding product-related questions, including manuals, warnings, and technical publications

  • Leadership responsibilities for designing and directing the work of both legal and cross-functional teams. Helps select, coach, and develop staff, as applicable.

  • Provide legal guidance in support of strategic corporate initiatives

  • Effectively manages the services and support of external counsel, as needed

  • Assess legal issues associated with proposed commercial transactions and strategies to mitigate business risks

  • Prepare and provide training presentations to internal clients on relevant legal topics or corporate practices

  • Provide counseling on legal regulatory and compliance matters, as needed

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
