Job Summary: The Engineering Specialist II will support the Electronics and Controls team by providing guidance and support to implement new applications of existing controllers into new generators and other systems. They are responsible for assessing functional requirements and creating technical requirements for Hardware, Firmware and Software engineering teams through detailed engineering documentation. They are responsible for developing software or unique configurations for customer use, along with systems that control devices and networks. With their extensive electronics engineering background, they create diagrams and models to guide programmers. They will be in constant communication with project teams and Product Managers to identify needs, address issues and if required, escalate to platform engineers. It’s a Engineering Specialist II's job to make sure all the electronics components work together and perform maintenance on them if there are any bugs. This individual develops strong working relationships with customer technical counterparts as the team’s primary liaison to deliver specialized product technical information, manage product specifications, communicate product changes, conduct complex installation issue resolutions and facilitate customer requests.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for collaborating proactively with product management, engineering, service, and customers to identify unique needs

  • Accountable for delivering the product requirement’s technical specification for the controls design teams including Hardware, Firmware and Software

  • Develops technical documents to present use cases or other information that help communicate customer needs to control design teams and technical product capability to product management or business leads.

  • Collaborates with supporting teams in the application of products into the field. Communicates to the Controls community understanding of field applications to improve requirements, validation plans, and test scenarios.

  • Accountable for creation of customer facing documentation to enhance the installation, maintenance, and end user experience including Manuals, Drawings, Diagrams, Troubleshooting Guides, Fault descriptions/mitigations and others.

  • Applies engineering knowledge and experience, combined with a detailed understanding of customer needs and priorities, to improve products, services, and processes.

  • Accountable for the CI of customer facing documentation to enhance the installation, maintenance and end user experience.

  • Provides technical supports to manufacturing in programming new products and unique configurations

  • Independently creates specific and custom configuration settings

  • Creates Configuration files, PLC Programs, Modbus Maps, Ethernet Interface, CAN Interface, Parameter Descriptions

  • Implement and troubleshoot PID tuning, system sensors, 3rd party control modules

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • 3 year experience in Product Life Cycle Management

  • 3 year experience tracking BOM (Bill of Materials)

Preferred Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering

Experience

  • Experience configuring and designing systems with any of the following generator controllers: Generac, Deep Sea, DEIF, ComAp or Woodward

  • Experience with Paralleling Genset control

  • Knowledge Skills and abilities:

  • Experience reading Firmware and Software source code

  • Experience with PLC Programming, PID Tuning, Communication Maps, Communication Protocols (Ethernet, CAN)

  • Experience using diagnostic equipment such as multimeter, waveform generator, communications analyzers

  • Technical communication skills being able to understand the functional needs and translate into technical direction

  • Interpersonal Skills to be able to work with all other that may be included on the project

  • Understanding of the function of Generators and/or Power Distribution including engines and electronic control systems

  • Understanding of serial communications protocols such as J1939 CAN bus, Modbus-RTU over RS-485, and Ethernet

  • Knowledge of microcontroller control algorithms such as PID control loops and programming knowledge using C/C++ Detail-Oriented skills to ensure all parts of a application come together and work as intended

  • Demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making

  • Fundamental understanding of the internal combustion engines and alternators

  • Experience in communicating and presenting technical content with external customers

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to solve basic system problems and use structured, data-driven decision-making processes.

  • Proficiency in reading schematics and wiring diagrams

  • Proficiency in utilization of Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and Teams

  • Good interpersonal skills while being a cooperative and coachable team player.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining data, documentation, issue tracking, etc.

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Ability to work well with a team of Programmers, Developers, and other Engineers

  • Ability to work effectively with business leaders and clients and represent the company professionally

  • Ability to innovate and a natural desire to figure out how things work, exploring new and creative technologies

  • Experience in reading and understanding wiring/schematic diagrams

  • Understanding of power systems engineering

  • Understanding of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, meters, and communication test tools

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
