Director of Product Management – Mobile Solutions

The Director of Product Management for Mobile Solutions is responsible for developing and executing product strategies across functions, with P&L accountability for Generac’s mobile solutions, including mobile generator sets and mobile BESS. This role oversees the entire product lifecycle, ensuring the successful launch of new products by prioritizing strategies based on market analysis and business capabilities. The Director gathers and maintains comprehensive category research, synthesizing data into actionable insights that validate the company’s product development direction. This role collaborates with other business leaders to drive an innovative three-year product roadmap. Additionally, the Director understands product quality metrics and effectively communicates issues to relevant teams, contributing to problem-solving and resolution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement product category strategies to drive revenue and profitability for assigned product lines, setting specific, measurable goals such as market share percentage, net sales, product revenue, and margin growth.

  • Prioritize strategy creation based on business needs and market demand.

  • Gather and maintain foundational category research, including industry and end-customer-focused studies.

  • Synthesize data into facts and trends that support the company’s product development direction.

  • Serve as a knowledge expert in the product category, understanding product capabilities, technical specifications, features, market drivers, and the competitive landscape.

  • Drive a three-year innovation-based product roadmap, including concept ideation, unique selling propositions, new project roadmaps, improvements to existing products and lines, new product launch timing, phasing out old products, channel/customer-driven NPI (New Product Introduction) projects, and cost reduction initiatives.

  • Develop and deliver timely reports and presentations to both internal stakeholders and external customers, incorporating relevant metrics and information related to the product line or category.

  • Employ both formal and informal communication methods to drive product strategy across the organization, securing buy-in from a broad stakeholder base within a matrix environment.

  • Collaborate across various functions and lead indirect teams to advance projects through the stage gate development process.

  • Drive initiatives and execute strategies to support the sales team and processes during key launch events or product milestones.

  • Work closely with the Engineering team to understand critical intellectual property, regulatory standards, and legislation, updating the product category strategy as needed

  • Mentor and develop a team of product managers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

  • Set clear goals and expectations for the product team and provide regular feedback and performance reviews.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering or related field

Work Experience

8+ years of progressive in marketing, business or engineering

4+ years management experience

  • Demonstrated capability to gather and utilize market analysis to understand the competitive landscape and drive product development decisions.

  • Ability to think strategically and make decisions that balance short-term needs with long-term goals.

  • Proven ability to articulate a business case to stakeholders and customers, including relevant product and market information tailored to the audience.

  • Demonstrated technical skills for understanding and driving new product development in a manufacturing and engineering environment;

  • Proven ability to conceive, develop and launch new products using a cross-disciplinary approach;

  • Prior work in a commercial and industrial business-to-business focused company

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong presentation skills;

  • Effective organizational and prioritization skills;

  • Ability to act proactively and identify innovative solutions;

  • Ability to read, understand, articulate to multiple audiences, and action upon technical information

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage ambiguity with a penchant for action.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or Master’s Degree in a related field preferred;

  • Past experience within Power Generation Rental Industry

Up to 30% International and domestic travel and valid Driver’s License required.
