English Learner Program Bilingual Family Liaison

Position Purpose To provide and organize support for families, parents and students in the school district who come from diverse language and cultural backgrounds. Support involves interpretation services for new families upon enrollment and registration, various school meetings, translation of school documents, and other duties related to non-English speaking students. Individual will serve as liaison to families, organizing family engagement activities that both educate and foster family engagement.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Assist with the enrollment of students from diverse language and cultural backgrounds from kindergarten through 12^th^ grade.
  • Provide initial support for families of diverse language and cultural backgrounds.

Provide and coordinate initial language support for students from non-English speaking backgrounds.

  • Serve as a liaison to school district personnel on issues related to families from diverse language and cultural backgrounds.

Assist with the translation of essential school documents.

  • Coordinate translation/interpretation services for district for families of ELs.
    • Parent/teacher conferences.
    • Special Education meetings.
    • EL family meetings.
    • Other meetings as needed.
  • Coordinate family engagement activities for district.
    • Quarterly family engage events.

Equipment Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in oral and written Spanish.
  • Ability to work effectively with children, youth and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Willingness to participate in training.
  • Willingness to be flexible and adapt to different situations.
  • Strong social and communication skills.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate meetings and activities.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile

  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

Education

  • Minimum of two year-college degree or the equivalent in experience in related field.

Experience

  • Experience working in an educational setting.
