About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned and -operated manufacturing center located in New York. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Responsibilities Plan weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates. Establish deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules and methods and policies established by higher levels of supervision. Explain work requirements, methods and procedures; Instruct subordinates in new procedures. Investigates work related problems (e.g., low productivity) to identify causes; implements those corrective actions that can be taken within the limits of incumbents authority. Develops performance standards, counsels employees on performance, and makes formal and informal performance appraisals. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machinist Supervisor without more than normal supervision which includes: (1) Supervising or leading artisans in a manufacturing industrial environment; (2) Setting work schedules, establishing priorities, and reviewing employees work in progress or upon completion; (3) Planning work sequences to have work completed by established deadlines; and (4)Working knowledge of machining processes, equipment and tools to explain machining operation requirements, methods and procedures. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
