Job Title: Summer 2025 Research Lab Intern - Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives (PSA) & Release Coatings (RLC)

Summary:The pressure-sensitive adhesives and release coatings (PSA & RLC) technology group is seeking candidates to assist with laboratory research and accelerate the development of new, more sustainable, products. As an intern on our team, you will contribute to development programs by running specific tests, processing data, and presenting experimental results for interpretation. Depending on skill level, you may perform chemical synthesis and formulate new compositions under the supervision of an experienced chemist or with limited autonomy as needed for the current projects. You will also will participate in group sessions to discuss results, address technical problems, and propose solutions to overcome them. You will participate in all aspects of R&D to understand the requirements of the field.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform all activities in compliance with all Momentive safety and chemical hygiene policies. Participate in safety reviews for new chemicals and processes as necessary.

  • Run lab-scale chemical reactions for which experimental protocols have been developed and verified. Complexity dependent on skill level.

  • Formulate high-performance silicone adhesives and/or novel silicone release coatings to support the new product development process. Complexity dependent on skill level.

  • Evaluate compositions by measuring their properties and performance. Learn, understand, and perform specific adhesive and/or release performance tests to generate accurate and precise results.

  • Organize, interpret, and present test results.

  • Participate in group discussions to address technical problems and propose solutions to overcome them.

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.

  • Completion of an organic or inorganic chemistry course with lab. Experience in laboratory research is a plus.

  • Desire to perform hands-on work in a chemical laboratory environment.

  • Ability to record, analyze, and plot data using Microsoft Excel. Experience with Minitab is a plus.

  • Ability to prepare slides using Microsoft PowerPoint and present results in group sessions.

Program Requirements

  • The candidate must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and for at least one semester following the conclusion of the internship.

  • The candidate is expected to be available to work in person 40 hours a week for 10-12 weeks between May and August.

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, crouch, twist, turn, lift, and move about the facility. Walking, walking on irregular surfaces, and balancing will be required. Reaching, feeling, finger movement, grasping, hearing, sight, and the ability to speak clearly will be required. Regularly lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs. The ability to wear personal protective equipment, and the ability to pass a fit test and wear a respirator is required for most positions.

What We Offer:Base Pay Range: $22.00 - $26.00
