Roles and Responsibilities:Conducts a variety of testing, repair, installation and maintenance tasks on equipment including engines, brake systems, suspension, steering, electronics, electrical systems, HVAC, transmission, and painting equipment, as well as:Inspects bearings, axles and related parts of brake systemChanges filters, oil, tires, worn parts and light bulbs as part of equipment inspectionInstalls, replaces and reassembles componentsRemoves and replaces defective partsRemoves and replaces defective diesel engine partsRepairs and maintains brake systemsRepairs equipment using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment and measuring instrumentsRe-installs (repacks) bearings of brake systemPerforms necessary adjustments to diesel engine (e.g., valve, timing, injector heights)Determines whether or not equipment is able to stay in serviceEducation, Experience, and Qualifications:Must be at least 21 years of ageMust have a high school diploma or GED, ASE certification a plusPossess at least three (3) years of mechanical experience, preferably dieselPossess a valid CDL A or B License with air brake and passenger endorsements at the time of hireBe able to pass the pre-employment physical and background checksHave a good driving record with less than five (5) pointsNormal working hours are 6:00 am - 2:30 pm Monday to Friday At NJ TRANSIT, you will enjoy a competitive salary and excellent benefit package:$6,000 Signing Bonus for CDL A or B License Holders (must have air brake and passenger endorsement)$3,000 Signing Bonus for CDL A or B Permit Holders with air brake and passenger endorsement (also CDL A or B licenses holders that have either air brake or passenger endorsement)Full benefit package including medical, prescription, dental & visionPension plan plus 457 tax-deferred savings planGrowth OpportunitiesPaid time offAssistance obtaining your CDL (for NJ drivers only)At NJ TRANSIT, diversity and inclusivity are vital to our success as we are committed to hiring individuals from diverse backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and veteran status.
